This. The concept of "Friends" & "Living Single" aren't original concepts to begin with. I'll admit I haven't watch much pre-1990's Television, but I refuse to believe they came up with this concept in the mid-90's.
Nothing on television is.

Three's company, they all lived in the same apartment and one of them had to pretend to be gay to stay because of conservative social norms of the time.
Martin elevated one character over the rest and less players.
Splitting hairs but Friends is almost exactly Living Single just with white folks. 6 people living in the same apartment complex but not the same apartment (Living Single was 4 girls/2 guys, Friends even 3/3/ split).
Also, the producer specifically said he thought Living Single was the best thing out and then made a show just like it.

I'm saying Living Single was not an original concept, a show about friends who interact with each other.
Its really no different than Seinfield, 3s company, Martin, Murphy Brown, and etc. IMHO. Ensemble tv shows like Taxi, except centered around apartments instead of jobs.

OK no one said it was original. Just the guy who made Friends specified what his influence for it was and it was Living Single.

Lol the setup of living single wasn't just friends interacting. Secondly, why does this matter if the point of the thread is confirming that the format was jacked specifically from living single? Sounds like you're trying to create a smart dumb argument just for the sake of argument

sounds like you really are just in your feelings because I'm not riding this wave that a disservice was done by the creator of friends.
They took a common format and ran with it. big deal, thats tv and entertainment.
