I'm not even sure Russia has the equipment for an additional 300k troops at this point, especially with winter coming. The bigger problem is with Ukraine currently re-enforcing the areas they recently liberated, they've been able to move their forces up...including HIMAR and artillery. These Russian soldiers, who are not trained, will be blown to bits if they plan on invading beyond the annexed territory. I don't see how this turns the tides for Putin and instead may open him up for criticism (or worse) within Moscow. A Russian hardliner would be able to ask why they didn't fully mobilize for instance, and claim a partial mobilization is why this failed.

Even if Putin is displaced, what comes after him will probably be much worse. He's managed to keep the oligarchs in check and towing a single line for decades. Imagine a volatile Russia with countless oligarchs and their allies jostling for power.

And believe it nor not, there are political forces in Russia that are to the right of Putin, more extreme/idealistic and less pragmatic
