Summary:ehh:

So all of these moves to me shows a pretty good GM who is getting better. Its the same theme as his earlier moves as GM (be frugal, scout foreigners, build through the D league, offer short deals, etc), but Phil has seemed to have figured out how to value players more accurately. Plus the idea of playing with Melo and KP has made NY a much more alluring place than it was last year. Considering the amount of Ass rape we seen around the league this FA anyone who talks trash about the knicks moves in comparison is either a Knicks Hater, a overly concerned fan, or a Phil Hater.
2016-2017 is going to be a good year for the knicks brehs:obama:

I think, per usual, you're a little more bullish than I am. But that's okay. There is zero chance Noah lives up to that deal, for four yeas. Zero. And it was a straight up error in judgement and strategy that cost them Galloway, signing him to a short-sighted deal. There is a lot of nuance to roster building that we (Phil) doesn't seem to have a grasp on. This team isn't built for any kind of future... there is flexibility to reset it again, and seeing Porzingis play well, and play on a good team is certainly good for us... but this team has no growth potential on a 4-5 year curve. That kind of upsets me, because there has been so much talk about progressively building a winner.

But, this is what we have done for years, so I guess it was a little naive for me to hope they were really going to change gears and do it differently. The Knicks could be pretty good this season, they can't make it to the finals, they obviously can't win a championship, but they could be solid. And we have our draft picks. And that's a good thing.

I agree wit your whole post . I been feeling where @I.V. is coming from but like I've discussed with him before there is more than one way to build a team . Phil did all you said , got a blue chipper in the draft and may have still turned us into a top east team . That would also benefit KP to me and attract other FA . Noah deal isn't the best but he wanted to be here [sounds] motivated and if he's Like 70% of his best that's great .
There is no need to save money if you can't even attract players !! Look at Dallas striking out every year . The knicks needed a big culture change and this is how Phil went about it

So I underlined the two points, and I'll address them individually. Because I think it highlights a little bit of a gap between where we are this summer... even though, for the most part, we agree on the team, moves, and are hoping for the best.

  1. There isn't really more than one way to build a great team. There is only: acquiring multiple great players in a short amount of time. Now, yes -- some times, like the warriors, are able to draft them (Klay/Steph/Dray), some sign them (2 of Miami's Big 3), and some do a little bit of both, (Cavs drafting Kyrie and Thompson, Signing LeBron, Trading for Love). But you have to get mulitple great players, and you have to get them in short order. The knicks did not get any great players. They got hopefully one really good player on an expiring deal, and two other good players. If it all breaks right, they could be a pretty good team. I just think you're hoping for a couple of low-percentage things to go in our direction, with two key cogs being chronically hurt. Which brings me to...
  2. I don't know how to classify a culture change. As far as roster and coach go, we have definitely made upgrades that will improve in the immediate sense. But as far as culture change of the organization, Phil is already talking about having Hornacek run what he wants "within the Triangle mentality" -- which is a distressing change of tone, from where he was even a month ago. And they just acquired three players: two in their 30's on 4 year deals, and 2 with chronic injury problems who are unlikely to recover to anywhere approaching their primes... And in the process, essentially dumped three young, healthy, cheap and improving players in Lopez, Galloway, and Grant. Personally, I have seen them do this MANY times. They have their picks right now, which is great. But banking on older (and injured) vets to buoy the team, and even carry teh team, does not feel like a new culture to me. Hiring a coach, but trying to constrain what he can do while coaching, does not feel super new to me.

The Knicks are in a better position going into this coming season than they have been in -- probably since 09? And if you're counting the timebomb in Amar'e's leg, then you can probably go all the way back to 01, when we were looking forward to getting about 40 a game from Spree and Houston. They're in a good position to succeed this season, they have a draft pick which is a welcome change. And their roster is going to compete, which will be a fukking DREAM compared to what we've seen.

But I don't know that we have seen a shift in organization culture. And while it will be fun to watch the team this year, it does not feel like a team that is setting itself up for long-term success.

Hopefully they win, and KP continues to blow up, and people want to come play with him, and we draft a great player with our pick (which would tentatively end up in the 20's? -- shout out to Jonathan Jeanne!).

Also! Sorry for all the long posts lately, I've kinda kept my visitation of this forum to a minimum for a variety of reasons -- but most of them are focused on how lame most of the conversations have become. The last week or two, I've needed distractions from the news, where I've been neck deep in bombings and shootings, and vitriol... so I've come in here to lurk and read, and take a few minutes to forget about it and talk Knicks. I hope my spamming and thoughts haven't been too much of a clutter, or too esoteric.

1. That's only the new way of building. Look at Mavs, Pistons, Spurs...all you need to build a contender is a group of guys that click.

2. Adding Rose & Noah gives them a toughness. Melo, Rose, Noah, O'Quinn, Plumee. These are physical players...Kris P is young but he's fearless. Then you have Team Chip (Melo, Noah, Rose, Jennings) they all have something to prove. I doubt they'll run the triangle though...especially with this group. And I doubt they'll run Hornacek's Phx offense...not enough shooters. They may run a modified Box.

Family and Knicks news have been the only thing keeping me from emotionally drowning out here, yall. Our society is so unhinged. :wow:
