maybe people are realizing that he is the 2nd best player in the EAST :yeshrug:

nikka been GOING CRAZY this year :mjcry:

He's getting away with playing PF thanks to small ball. That's a wide open court and a lot less athletic defenders. He's goin' HAM but I also think that small ball model is gonna get absolutely murked in a playoff series by any team that's smart enough to put a big in, beat him up in the post every night and try to draw foul trouble. No hate there, he's nice as hell, but he's also one of the guys the NBA propped up with a LOT of FT's and soft reffing on the other end. Indy, Cleveland, Chicago, San Antonio, Memphis...those teams tend to have nice home court records because they get away with murder on defense thanks to reputation and George gets a lot of calls the other way too.

Thanks. I can't wait to check it out. You gotta share with us what you see happening in SA. @Ironman gave some great insights.

SA scares me, I don't know if anyone has coached against the Triangle (in it's best form) more than Pop and he's a damned genius. Their defense is the model for stopping Melo too, Kawhi can afford to play Melo extremely tight because if Melo blows by him TD is there to meet him (so Kawhi can take way more risks and get away with 'em). I'm interested to see how AA rocks with Green, because Green's a tough defender but beatable. Where we could have an edge is KP vs either TD (who can't chase him far) or LMA (who rarely plays better than average defense). This is gonna be the one where we really want Calderon asserting himself but I ain't holding my breath.

So my keys would be:
. Like @Ironman said, win the battle on the boards and have our PF's run specifically. KP and D-will can both run the floor really well, LMA and TD...not so much, West and Boris Diaw even less so. Our PF's are an X-Factor because of athletic advantages.

. Establish a guard that can go right at TP. He's never been a good defender and he's nursing a hip injury right now. I think somebody driving right at him could cause a ton of grief.

. Hit our damned jumpers. The interior is a permanent nightmare against these guys, but they are still susceptible to the extra pass. Get inside, find the open man and make them pay.

. On defense it's a matter of containing Leonard and Parker. Parker is gonna get inside on our guards, Leonard is just really efficient and athletic.

. Last but not least, they've got a hell of a bench. We need the starters to win their match-ups and then the bench just needs to hold serve. The bench could actually win their match up though if Grant, Galloway and D-Will just get out in space and run. I'll be interested to see how Lance Thomas matches up with their forwards too when he defends.

He is a great defender.....he still can't guard 'Melo. :yeshrug: Never could. Also, 'Melo (at 31) has been playing better defense than Kawhi all season. Lately, Kawhi has only been slightly better by holding 44% shooters who take 9.4 fga's to 37.2% shooting, which is 6.8% below their average. Lately 'Melo has been holding 45% shooters who take 8.6 fga's to 38.4% shooting, which is 6.5 below their average.

Zema... honey... please stop :damn:

Kawhi gives Melo fits, always has.

Melo, even though his defense has SIGNIFICANTLY improved, is not a better defender than Kawhi... not even on his best day.

This is that sh*t I'm talking about.

This is the best he's looked in his entire career.

I like the anaysis... but PG is f*cking nasty this year... Small ball (pause), big ball (pause), doesn't matter... he's giving the entire NBA buckets and great defense.

He has never been able to guard 'Melo. In the 6 games they've played against each other, which goes back to 2012 (including the one they played most recently when 'Melo was already shooting a trash 37%), he's only had 3 bad games against the Spurs: Carmelo Anthony vs. Kawhi Leonard | Basketball-Reference.com. So much for "always". In the 2012-2013 season, Pop wouldn't even put Kawhi on him. He elected to double him. :rudy: In the last game, this happened:

CS2obXAWcAAovZa.png

That's when he blew by Diaw. Now why would the DPOY need multiple defenders to be thrown at 'Melo if he's the 'Melo-stopper? :jbhmm:And as you also see in the photo, they sent him to the help. They did that all. night. long. Now why would the DPOY need so much help to guard 'Melo if he's the 'Melo-stopper?
jbhmmm.png

'Melo's defense isn't "improved" this season. He's been a 90th percentile (elite) post defender for years. Kawhi certainly couldn't get anyhing against 'Melo when they played recently. He was missing, running from 'Melo, and passing until he could get a screen. :umad: Kawhi is guarding weaker talent than 'Melo is guarding, Kawhi is younger than 'Melo is, 'Melo has a bum knee, yet Kawhi has been outplayed defensively by 'Melo all. season. long. Please explain that while you're drooling assertions with no real rebuttal. You're just whining: "don't call Kawhi a lesser defender". Y'all just caping because he punks Lj, who can't even shoot.

Y'all kill me calling yourselves "Knicks fans", yet standing in line to drool over other players and throwing your own players under the bus for them. :scusthov:

Also, the reason PG is getting hyped is how well he's playing after coming back from his career almost ending. He came out the gate going for 30 or more and has been beasting when people figured he'd be afraid with his leg. That really was a nasty ass injury:wow::sadcam::mjcry:
Good to see him healthy though . Hopefully he has an off game when we play though :blessed:
