"As the Knicks have continued to develop more of a positive rhythm, Carmelo Anthony has gotten offensive help from his supporting cast, most notably Arron Afflalo and Robin Lopez. But Derrick Williams is beginning to emerge as well.

The three players above were part of the Knicks' mini spending spree this summer, with Williams signing a two year deal worth $10 million.

A former No. 2 overall pick back in 2011, Williams has underwhelmed throughout his career in comparison to his other high selection counterparts. Nevertheless, his signing is paying very early dividends for the Knicks.

The likes of Kevin Seraphin and Kyle O'Quinn have struggled to find consistent minutes as of late, but perhaps it's becoming clearer why Williams cost the Knicks more than the aforementioned two. He's been a very dynamic scorer off the bench for this team. Langston Galloway is seemingly more focused on playmaking and applying defensive pressure off the bench. Lance Thomas is shooting well, but still enjoys doing the dirty work. Williams undeniably likes the ball in his hands.

Slowly but surely, Williams is becoming the Knicks' most reliable scoring option off the pine. As players look to get each other involved, sometimes selflessness can turn out to be somewhat of a fault. Williams seems to understand the balance. He pushes the pace, draws defenders in, and passes out when he has to. But when the lane is open, Williams doesn't hesitate one bit.

This was once again demonstrated by his 13 point, eight rebound effort in just 18 minutes against Miami on Wednesday. He seems to be a very valuable player on this roster, though defense isn't exactly his forte, which is probably why he doesn't play too many minutes.

But the Knicks have other players to help create a more balanced attack. Frankly, Williams is always a player the team seems to turn to when in need of some scoring. He's a game-changer, and a lot can be said for his thunderous dunks. At home, they ignite the crowd. On the road, they quiet them down. He's also one of the team's best players at drawing fouls.

The 24-year-old-enjoys spelling Anthony and knows that he has the green light to be aggressive when the star forward sits down.

Given his reputation, it would have been difficult to predict the type of impact Williams was going to have in New York. But he's been a key part of their success."

#Hawkset only time to shine is when they play us. Them dudes act like they won the super bowl when they beat us.

It's not just Atlanta. Literally every team and fanbase acts like it's the end of the world when they lose to NY. Miami's team and fanbase are sad as if they didn't blow NY out twice. So, it's not surprising that there's...
Almost 1000pages :dwillhuh:

NY must really be the...

Once again, I will take this opportunity to vouch for NY having the...

:childplease: GOAT FANBASE

Win, lose, or tank, NY will support their team, even paying hundreds to thousand of dollars. Lake Show plays in a big city (my city) and I've never seen this kind of support. Y'all not normal.

We don't deserve you. Not even gassing you.

:russ: at D-Will is gonna yam every game he has at least 15 mins. It's true.

:deadmanny: at "Dragic looks like he hates the system and his teammates".

Harlow drools over Arron 'cause he's fine — not his game. :yeshrug:

I said the same thing that Jose played 35 mins and still only took 5 shots. His 80% shooting on 5 shots angers me because he can help the team, not just by making shots, but also by showing the opposing team that they can't cheat on defense because he's willing to use his shooting abilities, but he refuses to shoot. He should be taking at least 10 shots per game (close to his career average). He's the starting pg for crying out loud. I hate him so much.

Do you know where it was in the game that "there was a pretty awesome moment where D-Will lost his man and Lance literally push Williams in the right direction than scurried back to his guy"? I wanna look for it.

Nail on the button with Jose, I'd settle for 8 FGA's even, just gotta take the jumper once in a while even if his FG% dips slightly. It'll fix spacing for everyone! It's especially frustrating because he CAN orchestrate when defenses respect him but at times they literally don't like you mentioned with that shot clock violation. They knew they could lay off even with 5 ticks left.

That Lance/D-will moment was in the third I believe, I DVR'ed the game and plan on going back to watch the closeout, so I'll try and catch it to give you a time stamp. Those two are complete opposites but I think that makes them really good compliments to each other. I saw a link to player pair statistics somewhere, I wanna look at these two as a pairing.

So when is everyone (else) gonna start giving Phil his props. In one off season dude put together a roster filled with value guys that each fit a role and have great chemistry... :salute:

Some of us were giving Phil is props during the offseason, however, I didn't expect them to gel this quickly & effectively.
