There’s millions more playstations on the market and way more games to be sold.

Sure, but imo it's impossible to tell based on what information we have if this is indicative of any sort of trend on Sony's side when you compare only those two specific quarters.

Microsoft literally had a 4% decline in revenue in their gaming division.

Sony had a 61% increase. Why are you bringing up revenue?
4% decline from their greatest quarter ever equals the second best quarter ever.

Huge decline in console sales but revenue remain high means they are selling lots of software and services.

Sony expecting to sell more consoles but make less revenue means they aren’t selling enough games.

Again you don’t make money off selling consoles

Yet you don’t seem to apply that same logic to this article

again, this is what this article is saying…

The delayed adoption of the PS5, which launched in late 2020 but has been limited by production challenges, is showing signs of hampering Sony's ability to monetize the hardware through higher-margin software and subscriptions. Game sales in the latest quarter were down to 68 million units from 70.5 million in the same period a year earlier. The company reported operating profit of ¥128.5 billion.

That is an entire 2.5% drop from last year

Last year quarter 1

  • Dying Light 2
  • Elden Ring
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Gran Turismo 7
Quarter 1 this year

  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Resident evil 4
Their revenue is still higher than it was pre-pandemic. This isn’t indicative of a trend or on-going pattern, it just means only one major 3rd party game released this year as opposed to a few last year on top of two from Sony themselves. It’s an unrealistic expectation thats not even very dire considering the percentage difference of again, a whopping 2.5%

Fair enough, but Sony ain't hitting anywhere near those 10 million quarters that Swtich hit.

They will have to do at least 10 million in Q3 this year if they want to hit their 25 million goal. But yeah PS5 won’t top those Switch Covid years. Portables and home consoles have different sales potential too.

They are obviously expecting Spidey 2 to crush…and it will. Wonder if a price drop is happening

Not trying to start something, but saw this popup. It seems to me Sony might be in the Wii situation where they have the market share, but people that dont game heavily aren't buying 3rd parties and other games. It's not a bad thing because the potential market is very high, but wonder what can make those gamers increase their purchasing habits.
