You may have noticed that there are lots of rumours flying about regarding next-gen consoles. No one knows definitely when Microsoft and Sony will unveil their successors to the current Xbox and PlayStation, but Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai has said that it will let Microsoft make the first move.

In the Business section of The Times today, Hirai said, "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?"

With Nintendo already out the next-gen blocks with the Wii U, can Sony hold its bottle until the Microsoft announces? Surely his comments are slightly disingenuous, since there would be relatively little scope for changing the specs of the PlayStation this late in its development cycle. It's more likely that the additional time would be use to adjust the messaging surrounding the announcement.

I hope this means the not lettin them drop first.

He means both I'm sure... showing it off and releasing it. Hopefully now y'all stop believing these fake rumors and specs. IMO letting Microsoft who has the public edge go first is a mistake , remember they're quick to spend a billion on marketing . Marketing and perception is everything

i'm gonna stick with playstation

I still use my OG 60GB PS3 (copped first day) everyday, playstation has never done me wrong ad i'd prefer to buy a gaming console that is focused on gaming

8 cores and gigs of ram... means its gonna have some crazy nice features. People are gonna mess around and buy their ps4 for games but xbox for all the other features. Like its a different type of gadget.

Lets repeat how xbox lost already. Clowns worrying about all these features outside of the game. PS3 givin practially nothing to the OS and focusing on them Games. Round of applause for that station yall.

We also have hard data on Orbis's memory set-up. It features 4GB of GDDR5 - the ultra-fast RAM that typically ships with the latest PC graphics cards - with 512MB reserved for the operating system. This is in stark contrast to the much slower DDR3 that Durango will almost certainly ship with. Microsoft looks set to be using an offshoot of eDRAM technology connected to the graphics core to offset the bandwidth issues the use of DDR3 incurs. Volume of RAM is the key element in Durango's favour - there'll be 8GB in total, with a significant amount (two sources we've spoken to suggest 3GB in total) reserved for the OS.
