No it's not. Quit over-analyzing this damned movie like it's sooooo deep, I hate when people do that shyt. He was following the objectives that old dude gave him.
The only thing good about this movie was Fassbender's acting and the visuals, other than that it was straight ass cheeks.

nuffin beats the trouser snake scene except for the caesarian baby tentacle zygote scene.
ebery characger in there made sense,..if you know alien and aliens.
it was a great updated nostalgic ride.
the lighting the sets, the progressed psychology.
where the ignorance of white people shined through....
most fun i had watching a movie in years!!
movie is aliens for the new century crack.
will be there opening day!
haven't talked out loud at the screen and had that much fun in years!!

David definitely had some ulterior motives. I think the fact that Wyland didn't see David like us might've done something to him which lead to the black goo.
The movie seems to be, and I mean know disrespect, above your comprehension level.
