The Risk of Autism Is Not Increased by "Too Many Vaccines Too Soon"

Cincinnati, OH, March 29, 2013 -- Although scientific evidence suggests that vaccines do not cause autism, approximately one-third of parents continue to express concern that they do; nearly 1 in 10 parents refuse or delay vaccinations because they believe it is safer than following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) schedule (http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents/downloads/parent-ver-sch-0-6yrs.pdf). A primary concern is the number of vaccines administered, both on a single day and cumulatively over the first 2 years of life. In a new study scheduled for publication in The Journal of Pediatrics, researchers concluded that there is no association between receiving “too many vaccines too soon” and autism.

Dr. Frank DeStefano and colleagues from the CDC and Abt Associates, Inc. analyzed data from 256 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 752 children without ASD (born from 1994-1999) from 3 managed care organizations. They looked at each child’s cumulative exposure to antigens, the substances in vaccines that cause the body’s immune system to produce antibodies to fight disease, and the maximum number of antigens each child received in a single day of vaccination.

The researchers determined the total antigen numbers by adding the number of different antigens in all vaccines each child received in one day, as well as all vaccines each child received up to 2 years of age. The authors found that the total antigens from vaccines received by age 2 years, or the maximum number received on a single day, was the same between children with and without ASD. Furthermore, when comparing antigen numbers, no relationship was found when they evaluated the sub-categories of autistic disorder and ASD with regression.

Although the current routine childhood vaccine schedule contains more vaccines than the schedule in the late 1990s, the maximum number of antigens that a child could be exposed to by 2 years of age in 2013 is 315, compared with several thousand in the late 1990s. Because different types of vaccines contain varying amounts of antigens, this research acknowledged that merely counting the number of vaccines received does not adequately account for how different vaccines and vaccine combinations stimulate the immune system. For example, the older whole cell pertussis vaccine causes the production of about 3000 different antibodies, whereas the newer acellular pertussis vaccine causes the production of 6 or fewer different antibodies.

An infant’s immune system is capable of responding to a large amount of immunologic stimuli and, from time of birth, infants are exposed to hundreds of viruses and countless antigens outside of vaccination. According to the authors, “The possibility that immunological stimulation from vaccines during the first 1 or 2 years of life could be related to the development of ASD is not well-supported by what is known about the neurobiology of ASDs.” In 2004, a comprehensive review by the Institute of Medicine concluded that there is not a causal relationship between certain vaccine types and autism, and this study supports that conclusion.

Increasing Exposure to Antibody-Stimulating Proteins and Polysaccharides in Vaccines Is Not Associated with Risk of Autism
Objective
To evaluate the association between autism and the level of immunologic stimulation received from vaccines administered during the first 2 years of life.

Study design
We analyzed data from a case-control study conducted in 3 managed care organizations (MCOs) of 256 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 752 control children matched on birth year, sex, and MCO. In addition to the broader category of ASD, we also evaluated autistic disorder and ASD with regression. ASD diagnoses were validated through standardized in-person evaluations. Exposure to total antibody-stimulating proteins and polysaccharides from vaccines was determined by summing the antigen content of each vaccine received, as obtained from immunization registries and medical records. Potential confounding factors were ascertained from parent interviews and medical charts. Conditional logistic regression was used to assess associations between ASD outcomes and exposure to antigens in selected time periods.

Results
The aOR (95% CI) of ASD associated with each 25-unit increase in total antigen exposure was 0.999 (0.994-1.003) for cumulative exposure to age 3 months, 0.999 (0.997-1.001) for cumulative exposure to age 7 months, and 0.999 (0.998-1.001) for cumulative exposure to age 2 years. Similarly, no increased risk was found for autistic disorder or ASD with regression.

Conclusion
In this study of MCO members, increasing exposure to antibody-stimulating proteins and polysaccharides in vaccines during the first 2 years of life was not related to the risk of developing an ASD.

the evils of truth, and love

i just find it interesting that it was a study that remained dormant for so long as well as that lady who finally was able to spill the beans on what kind of practices they have behind closed doors like witholding information

another thing that bothers me is the forcing of parents to have to comply to these shots and the lack of backround knowledge on how they are even made which can possibly play a role so i put it out there

a question id like to have answered is why is there an increase in autism then? if its because we have the resources to diagnose it more readily than what is the root cause, it would have to be genetics right? if a majority of the vaccines in the recent past has had harmful chemicals in it than how can you be sure these things arent passed down hereditarily? while you cant to my knowledge pass down beneficial immunities from taking vaccines it is pretty much very well accepted things like cancer can be easier to contract if you have a family with a history of it developing in them. things like kids now who are more prone to fail or drop out of school could possibly even have ties to this, gaining defective traits in their dna from taking in dna that isnt theirs as a child still in their fastest growing stage

also why arent other ways of combating viruses practiced and pushed on a larger scale, like kids developing their own immunites, then allowing for the next generation being naturally immune through heredity when that have their kids, and forcingpromoting breast feeding to even more so boost immunites in infants? dependancy on these cultured virus fetus protien booster shots doesnt seem like the way to go since we now have the know how and technology to not have to rely on that or deem it the best course of action when it doesnt have to be

There isn't an 'increase'. What has happened is that specialists are looking at a larger group of people than previous studies.......

http://www.forbes.com/sites/emilywillingham/2013/03/20/autism-prevalence-is-now-at-1-in-50-children/

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new figures for autism prevalence in the United States. They now give a prevalence of 1 in 50, but this story, like most autism-related stories, goes deeper than the numbers.

First, this prevalence estimate doesn’t focus only on 8-year-olds, the population used for deriving the 1 in 88 number reported in 2012. Instead, it encompasses the number of diagnosed autistic people walking around in 2011 and 2012 who were ages 6 to 17. The 2007 percentage of the population fitting that description was 1.16%. These new numbers put that value for 2011-2012 at 2%.

Oh, this oughta make the anti-theist atheists on this board giggle.......

http://www.forbes.com/sites/emilywi...tbreak-traces-to-vaccine-refusing-megachurch/
A measles outbreak in Texas traces to a congregation of a megachurch whose leader, Kenneth Copeland, reportedly has warned followers away from vaccines, advocating for faith healing and pushing the debunked notion that vaccines cause autism. One of Copeland’s churches, Eagle Mountain International Church in North Texas, is the epicenter of the outbreak, which now has hit at least 20 people [UPDATE, 8/27/13: now at 21 in north Texas and one new case confirmed in southeast Texas, link to church not established]. According to USA Today’s Liz Szabo,

Those sickened by measles include nine children and six adults, ranging in age from 4 months old to 44 years old. At least 12 of those infected were not fully immunized against measles, Roy says. The other patients lack documents to show whether they were vaccinated.

I don't think those people read the Apochryphal texts, though. Damned shame........

ALMOST 80,000 Australian children are not immunised against deadly diseases, and the highest number live in Sydney's west.
Experts say the "baby Einstein" demographic - parents who take an intensive interest in their children's education and health, eat organic food and use alternative medicines - is responsible.

Sydney's west has an immunisation rate of 90 per cent for five-year-olds but last financial year was home to 3600 children who were not fully immunised. In wealthy Manly, Mosman and eastern Sydney, however, fewer than 85 per cent of children are immunised in some age groups. The figures are contained in a National Health Performance Authority report.

The World Health Organisation says immunisation rates for measles must be above 93 per cent to prevent its spread. Immunisation expert Julie Leask says parents who perform extensive research and are often suspicious of medicine are more likely to object to vaccination.

"I think what these figures say is ... you can't rely on herd immunity in your region," the University of Sydney academic said.

On the flip side the least educated and most ignorant amonst their population have 100% vaccination rates:ohhh:

This shyt is getting too crowded anyways.

Just make sure that if your kid dies from one of these diseases you don't make a big stink about it, just bury em and KIM.

will do, but I don't really think the world is too crowded, that's a myth.

If these vaccines are suppose to give humans immunities that dont go away, why dont they ever get passed on genetically to the next generation through conception?

Where do the lies begin? Where do they end?

Dont ask me how friend
immunology how does it work? are you really this dumb?
