People are not going to want to go to rugby games when MLB is starting and NBA playoffs are underway...Theres no cultural foundation for rugby over here,no history tied to the sport.

Look how long MLS been around and its still a 3rd tier forgotten league over here and thats the true global game...
Theres no momentum for a rugby league right now which is why its not a good look at least MLS was coming off the '94 world cup which had a big TV and fan presence in America...

Only way rugby "might" work over here is if one of the other leagues in England or Australia became a world league of 15-20 nations playing over a calendar year once a week with a playoff system at the end.You would get some patriotic interest attached to that...

Theres no interest in rugby right now this side to necessitate a league...Theres no room for it in american sports...
NHL playoffs are during that time to but even in Canada, Hockey hasnt been doing numbers like they used to :sadcam:. Rogers overpaid for it.

If their can be a pro lacrosse league, a sport which is only played by rich cac in the northeast and native americans, then I think a pro rugby union can bubble eventually.
There's already a loose club league that features players on the national team. They turn out a pretty good following. I think this could work out alright with some money behind it

Bad idea...I cant think of many good reasons to do this...

If the US team had a good tournament and had any interest at home maybe but it doesnt...
No tv deal,no interest,no talent...it wont last long IMO
Professional soccer has had problems getting traction. Things are different now, but it has taken years.
Professional arena football and lacrosse are other leagues that have a small following, but no explosive growth.
WNBA has half empty seats.
Rugby won't do well here for the same reasons NFL Europe didn't do well in Europe, not enough fans willing to pay money and interest in the sport. That money is used to support the leauge, team owners and players. TV networks would be willing to broadcast games and make money selling advertising time if they knew there would be fans watching. No fans, no advertising dollars.

Do we really need more sports I don't give a shyt about on TV??
I've watched it on TV. Australian rugby and European rugby. There's some kind of difference between the two, but I don't know. I don't get what's going on in general. It's like American football, but they cheat and run the ball and pass it all over the place like referees don't exist. They kick a field goal whenever they feel like it.

As one of the former college football bruhs that was on the cusp of making an NFL roster, but could never quite get through, that then switched to rugby, I think this league sounds appealing, but ultimately will fail. Like other posters have said, there just isn't a big enough following to generate enough revenue to sustain a league.

USA Rugby missed a big promotional opportunity by not making the Rugby World Cup more accessible in the states. The only pool games you could see in the states is when the Eagles were playing, and who really wants to watch that ish :scust:?

7s will be in the Olympics next year and the US could do decent in that. But I dont see a scenario where 15s will appeal to people unfamiliar with the sport. Theyd do better to just televise or at the very least stream games of the top clubs like Seattle, Glendale, Life University etc and see how that works before attempting a real pro league. The league will mostly consists of players from those clubs anyway.

Also, the US will never be able to really compete internationally until EVERYBODY starts playing rugby. Right now it's mostly know-it-all white boys, and islanders that wouldn't have a shot in their home country playing. Furthermore, a lot of melanin-deficient people are trying to just get rich off youth rugby and making it inaccessible to the lower/ working class. Why sign up your kid to play youth rugby for $500, when you can drive down the street and sign them up to play football for $150? Once some of these blackletes pick the game up as youths, and develop their skill in rugby is when we'll be able to compete for real. Imagine a Leonard Fournette at 13, or a LeBron James playing the 8.:banderas:
