They siezed those 275 for show and let the other 5,000 make it all the way to America safe and sound, probably on a cargo ship or something.
Some organizations in DR smuggle around 10 to 15 tons monthly, which is 10,000 to 15,000 bricks of pure coke straight from the labs in the jungle in Colombia and nearby Venezuela.
I know the area of Pedernales/Barahona, in the southern region of DR very well, and fishermen there make trips to Venezuela or Colombia early in the morning with their raggedy little boats and come back the next day loaded with coke. It's literally what's holding the economy in that part of the country, because there's nothing there, just extreme poverty and backwardness. But some of the most powerful druglords in the whole caribbean live in that area.
It's the most third world'ish part of DR.
