This is correct. The Brics dollar isn't real... it was a symbolic gift presented to Putin. Creating a new currency is both unfeasible and unnecessary. They will continue to do trade both in their own basket of currencies and even the US dollar. The crucial aspect is as you mention payment systems, and that exchanges, trade settlements will be conducted on their own parallel systems, some of which are already online now. Global trade in agricultural products is now being done outside of the traditional New York and Chicago based exchanges, which is making Western producers blind to global market developments. Clowns in this thread claiming that "nothing happens" are quite mistaken.

People here are asleep and probably don't even know that china has been Brazil's largest trading partner for at least 15 years straight, but the dollar is making it impossible to import anything here without paying double for it due to import fees.
I don't like any of these countries (china, russia, india, south africa), but this trade system will benefit brazilians a lot.
