Honestly lightskinned black tend to vibe with Latinos MUCH better than darkskinned black people. Basically they are somewhat more alike.

As someone of dominican descent it saddens me the island cannot get along. We all share the same island like it or not, and both nations have been raped and ravaged for centuries so the ethnic cleansing and racism is compounding the poverty and exploitation of the land more than it already has.

Goes deeper than that. One country relied more on black slaves and therefore had a higher population of blacks. DR had a population of slaves as well, but to a lesser extent. Then you got guys like Trujillo that were simply racist and retained the oppressor mindset of Spaniards. So many of the hardliners saw Haiti as a colony of slave ancestors whereas DR was almost a continuation of colonial Spain's glory and prestige.

We have a decent-sized population of racists on this board, but in some ways I don't blame a lot of them. I live in Florida so there's a big population of Haitians moreso than dominicans so I've honestly known more haitians than dominicans. We're so goddamn similar it's a shame there's hatred.
