The reason that Haiti and most of those affected seem to be taking it in stride, I think, is cause they knew this was bound to happen and that they were illegal or undocumented.

Most of them aren't illegal.
The undocumented ones aren't at fault because of DR's systematic refusal to give the birth certificates.
DR's law is far from transparent and it violates international human rights laws.

I'm not condoning the barbaric acts in this video, but the real reason why this happened was because there was an increasing group of haitians living in a peaceful rural dominican community, and they were starting to commit crimes and shyt got out of control to the point where 2 haitian citizens killed a dominican boy called Carlos José Núñez for unkown reasons. The people who are attacking the haitians in this video are mostly family members and friends of his.

But first let's be clear: According to a 2012 census of the 524k immigrants in the DR 95% of them had documents.
As a matter of fact, even the young lady that sued and started this entire situation had documents.
But back to the law, tell me who gets to be a Dominican in DR? What does the Constitution say? Because this is what was in question.

288,466 immigrants from 23 countries enrolled in the regularization process
DR's constitution is guiding law. BUT international human rights laws have jurisdiction and trump the DR's constitution.
