Yes, I know this. I work at a school with a 70% Dominican population. A rational person would be hard pressed to make sweeping generalizations but the ones in charge of this are not rational.

that's kinda how racism works, they don't need to tell the difference, the burden of proof is on the person SUSPECTED of being Haitian, if you can't prove you're Dominican, you're getting shipped out, whether you're Dominican or not.

you have no idea what you are talking about...my grandfather is not Dominican, he moved to DR when he was about 23 years old..when Trujillo was in full force...he was also dark skinned and he was never deported to Haiti. or his identity questioned...so explained that.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
you're neither so how you gonna tell people what they can or cannot be

The country of Haiti does not grant you citizenship simply by being born there.

The Dominican Republic does not grant you citizenship simply by being born there.

The outrage in this thread is phony. These are standard laws all over the world

rounding up citizens and deporting them. sounds like a great idea. we should break off diplomatic relations with such a vile country or just have a mickey mouse ruling from our supreme court that says people of dominican descent born in america after 1929 will be stripped of their citizenship and deported back home. same for any country that wants to "deport" citizens.

in countries where birthright citizenship isn't automatic, they don't deport them. they get some kind of permanent residence status ... wrong IMO but not inhumane. deporting citizens to a country where they don't even speak the language is abhorrent. someone earlier said the haitian govt needs to do more for their people ... uhmmm these aren't their people. the dominican press can keep referring to them as haitians (or as the racists on here say: immigrants) all they want but they are dominicans of haitian descent. just because you come up with some arbitrary 1929 cutoff doesn't make it so. look if the DR wants to deport illegal immigrants, go right ahead, every country does it and every citizen pretty much expects their country to do it. close your borders, do whatever you need to stop the flow of illegal immigration. but deporting citizens born after 1929? really? go fukk your racist selves.

p.s. does this affect all cocolos or just dominicans of haitian descent? and from a legal perspective what's the difference?

p.p.s. since we're going based on looks when rounding people up, what is the difference between these two (so we on the coli can help the dominican police be more efficient in their rounding up of dominicans of haitian descent).

it would happen to people i love though. my aunts and uncles from my dads side were almost all born here and are full blooded americans, but when my grandparents came here in the 70s they came under false names. my aunt is a damn principal in the suburbs upstate so it would be kind of crazy to see her get deported to DR. i never said i co-sign it, but it is what it is.

the difference is, the US is a world power and DR is a 3rd world country.

its like comparing the titanic to a fishing boat.
