Rotimi confirmed in his Breakfast Club interview that they had to cram a lot into this season because they only had 10 episodes to tell everyone's story. You would think STARZ was smart enough to expand the show to at least 13 episode, especially with how good the show is doing.

I don't think their main concern was sunday night with the VMAs or GoT, though those added to it.
