This is another difference among eras that isn’t brought up that much. Running backs fumble less frequently nowadays.
I don’t know if it’s improved techniques on holding the ball, better emphasis on ball security, the gloves, etc….but RBs nowadays fumble less frequently. 21st century RBs like Tiki Barber and Adrian Peterson with reputations for fumbling have better fumble/touch ratios than prior great RBs like OJ, Sweetness, Dorsett, dikkerson, etc…
