I pondered including Bird instead of one of Hakeem or Russell but the former is better (imo) and You can't leave the most successful nba player ever in russell of an all time list:yeshrug:

And it's not like Tim couldn't have been a 27/14 type player if he wanted but he was all about team success. Many think the system is the reason for his success though teams tanked for him knowing how good he was. If anything the system held him back from being even more dominant individually. Cause even if he didn't go the Spurs it's little to no doubt in my mind that Tim would have won rings with whatever team would have drafted him provided he didn't get injured.

But at the same time, he also never repeated. So it would make you wonder if it was the system that held him back, or did he sometimes not step up when he was supposed to and take over for the system. It's not like he was going to the Finals every year, he was losing in 2nd & 1st Round as well.

Only when it comes to Tim do we hit em with the back to back thing. Was it him not stepping up or the team as a whole? And some of those losses were just bad matchups. Don't let the seeding fool you. That West was brutal. Not to mention Tim getting hurt in 2000 and Derek Anderson getting hurt in the playoffs that one year. We don't knock Bird for not repeating so why we do it with Tim. The man was the undisputed number 1 pick from his sophomore year on. Was the best big man prospect since Shaq and honestly still has been if you ask me. Duncan was destined for greatness regardless of where he was drafted.
