Most current lists in the last two years, if you average them out, tend to go:
Mike
LeBron
Cap
Magic
Wilt
Bird
Shaq
Duncan
Kobe
O
With the next 5 typically going:
Dream
Bill
Logo
KD
Mailman
There is some variance here, particularly with Bill as there are organizations that call him Top 5, and there are rankings that have him closer to 20...
Duncan is closer to 5 in some, and is outside the Top 10 in others. So there's variation, nobody's list has every single player in the same exact order, so any "case study" being done should just affirm these things are highly subjective...
That said, I'm not positive how I order my Top 10 yet. What I will say if going off of the average opinions of cumulative lists:
•you can make an argument for about 5 guys at #1. Mike has the strongest argument of the 5, but there are alot of variables to consider and other guys have a case...
•Kareem is probably #3 on mine, but he's on shaky ground. He has an argument for #1 but his entire case is based off of longevity. When you compare him H2H with other candidates, there's no way you can't take into account that he played a decade before Magic, in the weakest era ever, and is the most glorified stat stuffer ever. Stuffing stats and accolades and yet still managing to miss the playoffs in Years 6 and 7, smack in his prime, getting to The Finals just twice in an area that he statistically dominated and ran up MVPs, but didn't have a 60s Celtics roadblocking him. He missed the playoffs twice, only got to The Finals twice, same number as Wilt pre-Lakers, without the challengers ahead that Wilt had...
His dominance is overrated. The bulk of his "dominance" and awards came in a terrible era and he falls off a cliff after Magic came on the scene. Cumulatively he has a case over everyone but that's it, you can also make the argument he should be as low as 8. His resume doesn't hold up well under scrutiny and after Russell is probably the most overrated Top 15-ish player...
