You wrote a lot and I've agreed with very little. If you been to Woodbridge, you know it's a lot different than Fairfax or Annandale. I also don't know if you have experience throughout the South. Savannah doesn't feel like Atlanta. Jacksonville doesn't feel like Orlando. All of these cities are different.

What is your definition of deep south? Because Virginia is clearly in it for me. If it's all about the boonies, none of the big cities in the South are like the boonies. Even Jackson, MS.
That’s big issue with these debates.

We keep talking CITIES.

Cities full of transplants, non-natives, etc.

You gotta go out to the sticks to get a true feel IMO.

One of my main criteria’s for what’s considered the South is an significant RURAL Black population, that’s something you won’t find anywhere else in the United States.

South ends at the Mississippi imo. That doesn’t stop those cacs from rocking confederate flags though.

Is Your State Really Southern?

Sorry, but Your State Is Not the South

Modern Texas

Texas used to be part of the South. When the Civil War broke out, the state had been in the U.S. for fewer than 20 years, and it was relatively empty and unpopulated. Houston and Dallas had been founded within the last 25 years. Most of the population lived in East Texas, close to the border with Louisiana and Arkansas, and made their living in the cotton trade. There were so many connections between Texas and the Old South that which side it would choose was never in question.

But things are a little different 150 years later. Houston and Dallas are two of the biggest cities in the U.S., and a sizable percentage of the people who live there are first-, second-, or third-generation Texans. Most Texans self-identify as Texans first, not Southerners. Texas is big enough that it makes sense to do that. El Paso is closer to California than it is to Louisiana. And if you look at the way the state is growing and becoming more diverse, especially in the increasingly progressive big cities, it’s also positioned to align itself more with California than Georgia. You could drop Austin and the Central Texas metro area into Northern California and hardly tell the difference.

Texas A&M recently joined the SEC, which makes sense because it is located in the East of the state and has a conservative culture, but you will never see the University of Texas doing that. UT, and whichever other schools get lucky enough to join it in the next batch of conference realignment, is much more likely to join a Pac-16. The South is Texas’s past.

nikkas need to state where they from or where they lived before they answer this question. I don't want another thread of corny ass NY nikkas tryna tell southern people wassup. Anyway im born and raised in GA, done lived in TX SC MS and CO and fukked with Bama and Memphis hard.

Texas is obviously a southern state but the culture there is nothing like it is in the dirty. Its far more like Colorado or Kansas or OK than GA/AB/TN/SC/NC/MS/LA/FL and any nikka from one of these states can tell instantly.

I do gotta few texas homeboys who seem more like what I'm used to but I didn't meet a single nikka like that the 3 years I lived there.
Where in Texas did you stay? It honestly depends where you stay in Texas. Because I know East Texas for sure has a whole lot in common with The Boot. They're right next door. Houston especially, has always had a kinship with Louisiana. Even before Katrina.
