i feel where youre coming from. i used to work at this church, a christian baptist church at that, and in exchange for letting farakhan and the noi hold a meeting in the church when he came town, the noi came and renevated a bunch of stuff in the building, free of charge. roof, paint, floors, wiring, plumbing, the works. AND the local chapter of the NOI still came through once a year after that and touched up their renovations free of charge. so that was love, and im sure they do more things like that.

but the point is, on the whole, black organizations are not working together effectively. each one of these organizations has the supposed "goal" of helping black people, but they cant even control their egos to the point where they can collaborate, let alone accomplish a common goal.

There are individuals in the NOI ranks that aren't right, but as a whole they try their best... they have concrete actual plans to get things accomplished as well. I can't respect a black group, especially a church that disses the noi.

He said all those things about York was true, and I'd take his word over somebody who's never been in contact with the man.

Black people have so many different priorities in life, getting behind something on some united Black front just seems unlikely in this day in age.

No, not on the level that these Black nationalist want. Jena 6 is not a good example, that isn't the type of scale these dudes are interested in. The way Black America looks today is very different from how it looked 50 years. We are more diverse financially/economically, we have more Black immigrants today, and then you have different views on things like unions, religion, the role of the family,etc. Some examples...

I could go on about how major issues surrounding the Black community won't necessarily have easy concrete solutions if somehow Black people or Black 'leadership" was more united. I don't believe I am ever going to see any Black group on the level of scale that these dudes want, but EVEN if they were able to get the numbers by some miracle the ability to come to anywhere near a consensus on various issues would be highly improbable. Because the major problems in the Black community with the exception of a handful do not have clear cut solutions.


I would rather have local groups with great organizing skills who can focus on local issues to alleviate problems. I have seen that bigger is most definitely not always better, and that when many grassroot orgs grow larger the ceremonial grandstanding and internal bickering increases as well.
