This is more of a reason for me to get a cd/dvd writer. I don’t use them like that but I like having access to media without the internet

I wish we could make back ups of console games and play them legally on our console.

I know we can technically make back ups but we have no way to play them.

That’s why I’m glad 4K Blu-ray’s come with the digital copy. Win win

gaming is headed toward a very dark place that I don’t want to be a part of

I remember I bought Dreamfall: The Longest Journey digital game on Xbox 360 then two months later they removed it due to license issues and I got mad, pissed off and called them that I want my money back and they said I cant get a refund and nothing they can do about it.

I don't mind a digital future, but there needs to be laws to protect consumers. If content gets removed from a service, then they should provide a DRM free way to use content or provide a full refund for content. I know there's most likely something written in the terms of the agreement that states we're renting the content, but we still need laws against that

As usual some of you are conflating “digital” with “streaming”

Owning a game/movie and digitally storing it on your local drive is just as safe (even more so) as physical media.

These people are losing the ability to stream content.

That's strange. You can download delisted games if you own them on Xbox. Delisted just means they can't sell it, not that it doesn't work

The content was purchased and owned. You could at one point download it to multiple PlayStation devices.

What's more, the content is "portable," meaning that videos downloaded on your PS3 can be watched on multiple PSPs. It doesn't look like movies can be purchased in HD, but downloads are progressive so content starts playing a minute after you hit begin the download.

This is all confusing because is sounds like they’re totally revoking access and because it was a download service they’re nuking access to it even if you have it. Maybe they’re no longer making the items downloadable and it can only be played on the hardware purchased on. It’s not clear.

Sounds like it started out as a download service on the PS3 and in the PS4 generation Sony removed the option to download and only allowed watching on demand.

For some of these customers they legit purchased a digital copy of these series and had the rug pulled from under them twice. The first time when the ability to download the content they purchased was removed and the second time when the ability to watch the content on demand was removed.

Congrats if you still have a PS3 with that content you purchased on it. You can still watch it there at least. Since the ability to download was removed doubtful you can transfer it.
