For last gen the Pro consoles made sense in concept.

People had 4k TVs, with no 4k content

Problem is, PS4 pro couldn’t actually do 4k content.

Now PS5 can’t do 4K content, and they wanna sell another console based on the idea of 4k content :dwillhuh:
The PS5 can do 4K just fine. Graphical fidelity is always a moving target. It will never stand still and allow hardware to catch up. That being said for the prices consumers are willing to spend on home consoles they'll usually struggle to do full 4K 60FPS+ with ray tracing. You can spend $1000 on a PC graphics card and not be able to meet that without DLSS. No way is a $500-$600 console going to come close to that.

I get all that, i’m just talking about from a marketing standpoint.

I don’t think people care about “4k” anymore.

Yea i think people forget we had 720p and 900p boxes, so it absolutely made sense last gen.

Anyway I think the concepts of generations are about to die, can't keep resetting to zero

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
you were talking about "native" 4k in response to the claims about Sony's PSSR upscaler. "native" means no upscaling

native 4k at 120hz is a tall task for any GPU including the 4090. and it requires the rest of the system to be top notch. it's not happening with this Pro console
What I was talking about was the fact I was inexperienced and just googling 4k/120 brought up a 3080 being the starting point.

Then I mentioned how, I do see the small print that the PS5 won't be 4k/120 native. And I asked what would it take to produce that.

But you deleted all that and commented it in a way like I was confirming some shyt I knew. And that was corny. If you gonna clown me, at least clown me for what I was actually saying.

Hyping people up about generations is marketing shyt. But we’d all be better off to let that idea go
This is from 2020.. My point was back in the Sega, Nintendo, Atari, turbographix, 3do, etc they were not calling them gens.. And everyone was dropping at random.

Once it got consolidated to Sony vs MS vs Nintendo, they started dropping them all together, naturally people labeled those release spans as one forward step in console gaming.

If there were 5 console companies, I don't think you'd see all 5 drop in even the same 3 year span. They'd be on different time tables. Well maybe not with 3rd party titles being way more popular these days. But that's my overall point

I think we reached the minimum threshold for people caring about it. We have it and I just don't see the point for this PS5 Pro. If you desire higher graphical performance than the console gives it's time to graduate to a gaming PC. This PS5 Pro will just be held back back the original model. AMD is on Zen 5 and the PS5 Pro is gonna be on Zen 2 for example.

:stopitslime: you can get a 4070 super for like $500 :stopitslime:
Being a person that has a 4080 Super I know for a fact that you not getting full blown maxed out always over 60FPS+ performance with full ray tracing enabled on these AAA games at 4K without using cheats like DLSS. That's some 4090 shyt. Turn off the ray tracing or turn it down and yeah you can.

raytracing is relatively new technology, using it as a standard for anything is crazy. 4070 Super can do 4k 60 fps on AAA titles very easily. fukk raytracing :manny: also the 5000 series coming out this year will probably save that, and of course will be same price range as current 4000 series cards. So the $500-600 5070 will probably accomplish this with ease.

The 2080 ti came out like 6 years ago. Is was said to have ray tracing for whatever that was worth. We're now 2 generations removed from it.

raytracing was introduced late 2018, about 6 years ago, but that still means its new technology for the most part. From 2018 til 2021 you probably heard the word raytracing less than 5 times in your life :stopitslime:

4k 60 fps was doable many many many years ago, doesnt mean it was standard back then
