Jordan is a great defender and opportunist (steals, blocks) but on the ball lockdown d pippen was signifigantly better.

Pippen and Jordan were pretty much equal on-ball defenders. Pippen's height and length gave him a slight advantage and made him a more VERSATILE defender. When you are the main scorer on your team, you tend conserve your energy on the defensive side of the ball. But when MJ made up his mind to shut you down, he did.

I think y'all may wanna check Magic's numbers the remainder of the series and act as if he was just some sort of sideshow the rest of the way.

This. Magic had a 20 assist game in that series, a couple of 20 point games, yet Pip shut him down :shaq2:

Pip made things difficult for him, but great players don't get shut down, especially one of Magic's caliber.

I'm convinced, some of y'all didn't even see the games (especially not the year it happened) and are just going by what various sports segments have spewed over the years.

I think you just said that pippen was a better on ball defender without saying it. I really dont think mj "conserved energy" on defense for his offense.....he's too competitive for that and he didnt exactly have endurance problems..at all.

Edit, btw @Po pimp

1991 NBA FINALS GAME 1 STATS

MAGIC: 19PTS 11AST 10REBS

JORDAN: 36PTS 12AST 8REBS

but he "KILLED" Mike :stopitslime:

He killed him if you watch the tape. Magic was killing MJ in every way and had at least 15 hockey assists that game. Pippen wasn't letting Magic dictate the game like MJ was doing.

No, what I'm saying is Pippen presents a more difficult matchup for Magic due to them basically being the same height.

I don't know if you actually play basketball, but no one gives 100% all the time. Basketball is all about picking your spots, and Jordan was no exception...especially since he carried the bulk of the offensive load. If LeBron's only responsibility was to be a Tony Allen type of player, with that athleticism, he'd put up ridiculous defensive numbers.

The ONLY reason people say Magic killed MJ is because the Lakers won that game. They keep ignoring the fact that it took a Sam Perkins 3 to ice it (a game LA won by TWO points). We gonna act like every game after was a blowout when Pippen started to guard Magic? Game 3 or 4 went to overtime.

I'm pretty sure professional caliber nba player 1991 michael jordan in his first nba finals ever gave his all 100% of the time.

Dude, it's physically impossible to give your all 100% of the time. There's a reason the game is played differently when you compare the first 5 minutes of the first quarter versus the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter in a tight game.

Pippen was a pretty good offensive player as well as was an elite defensive player. Pippen was one of the few NBA players that had elite on and off ball defensive abilities.

To the other question, Magic dismantled MJ. Magic had his way with the Bulls till they put Pippen on him. Then Magic went off individually but not making everyone better. Think of CP3. He is more dangerous making everyone better than individually but he can't be stopped individually as well but it's a lot easier to win if he his just going off instead of the team.

Get the fukk outta here with this bullshyt. Yes, the Lakers won game one, but miss me with this Magic killed MJ shyt. The Lakers won on a Sam Perkins go ahead 3 pointer. I was only 9, but I remember that game vividly. I don't know if the threadstarter is asking whether Jordan beats Magic in the Finals without Pippen, or without Pippen guarding Magic. He clearly doesn't even get to the Finals without Pippen. You saw what Jordan did when he was surrounded by bums. But as far as advancing without Pippen guarding Magic, they would've just put Pip on Worthy, and Jordan on Magic. Jordan was every bit the defender Pippen was.

Also, we gonna act like Jordan didn't average 30+ and 11 assists in that series?

Still out a triple double on Cheese and Phil had to rethink some shyt.

Cheese fans are so insecure. The nikka got his, played baseball, got some more, and fukked up a franchise, and on top of that he got the youth killin' each other over his tennis shoes. He winning. What more do y'all want from him?

I'm not trying to diminish Pippen's abilities, but I just can't believe people are shyttin on MJ. I guess that's become the "cool" thing to do on these forums.

Anyway, like I said, Pippen's height made him a more formidable matchup for Magic. At 6'9, Magic could just post up a smaller Jordan, and see over double teams if they came. With Pippen, there was no need to double since they were of equal height.

Magic got a triple-double on Pippen too in game 5. A 20 assist one at that. Didn't matter though because we destroyed them boys.
