Galloway looks to build on rookie success with Knicks

Langston Galloway was the brightest spot of a 17-win campaign. but the point guard is entering a season with much more to prove in order to stay on the court.

Not only is Jose Calderon returning from injury, but also the word from Phil Jackson was that Galloway will compete with rookie Jerian Grant for playing time. It's one of the key battles at training camp this month, and Galloway detailed Wednesday how he's getting better.

"Doing a lot of floaters, finishing at the basket," Galloway, 23, said on SiriusXM radio. "And another thing, just being more consistent. I've been working on my point guard skills as well because that's a big key in being in the triangle with the Knicks. And also, just working on my speed. A lot of point guards in the NBA have a lot of quickness. So I'm just going to continue to work on that and get better when I'm guarding the different types of guys."

Galloway, a Second Team All-Rookie selection, capitalized on a pair of 10-day contracts last season before signing a partially guaranteed deal through 2015-16. The St. Joseph's product averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 32.4 minutes per game. Assuming he makes it to the training camp roster, most of his $850,000 will become guaranteed.

"I'm not satisfied at all. I'm just trying to make my mark each game that goes by and I'm definitely still trying to prove myself to the world that 'hey, I can continue to belong in this league and continue to do the same thing I did last year,'" Galloway said.

Galloway is among the group of Knicks working out together this summer ahead of training camp. He gave rookie Kristaps Porzingis a thumbs-up.

"We worked out a few times this summer and he's looking great. His shot is coming along. He's gotten a lot stronger. And he definitely is going to prove a lot of people wrong," Galloway said. "A lot of fans thought that he might be not a good pick and everything like that. But he's definitely going to prove a lot of people wrong."[/URL]
