No, you know, I think they collectively felt that they were playing w/ house money.
In that they knew they were projected...by everyone...to be terrible & the fact that they beat Bron & beat the Hornets, two teams that are supposed to make noise in the East, they felt they could possibly not play 100%.
Of course I'm speculating & I do feel like they play hard but that is what I sensed. There wasn't any urgency in the way they were playing.
Inside the New York locker room on Tuesday night, the players admitted to the offensive miscues caused by Washington’s defensive pressure in the second half. In a similar style as the Bulls in the home opener, the Wizards did not allow New York any space to operate the Triangle and generate offensive firepower. The Knicks were held to just 29.3 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. This defeat will provide Derek Fisher’s crew a chance to review the game film and see the back-door opportunities to counter any team that decides to overplay passing lanes and discover the myriad of options in the Triangle to find offensive success in these circumstances. http://www.nba.com/knicks/news/5-ta...Defensive-Pressure-and-Shumps-Offensive-Surge
Obviously, Knicks fans were hoping for a different result on opening night. The key is preaching patience as this team works through the challenges of learning the Triangle Offense and a completely new defensive scheme. The worst-case scenario is to abandon Fisher’s direction and begin to panic early in the season. Chicago is a legit, title contender and New York is in the midst of a new era under Fisher and Phil Jackson. Larkin brought up some great points in the locker room following the defeat. The point guard explained the defensive pressure they witnessed from Chicago and now they understand how to counter through the use of the Triangle and back door cuts. This is one example of how each game will offer learning experiences, which this team must embrace and look to improve in each opportunity on the floor. http://www.nba.com/knicks/news/5-takeaways-what-knicks-learned-opening-night-defeat
