This is only for new members
Technically yes, but in reality not exactly.
As we all know, Microsoft has been pushing Gamepass/Gamepass Ultimate for quite some time.
They even have the offer to upgrade the remainder of your Gold Sub to Gamepass for only $1 (for new gamepass users)
So anyone who took advantage of that (gamers like myself) are no longer considered Xbox Live Gold Subscribers. So this isnt just brand new users or console switchers.
So, in my case, my Xbox Gamepass Ultimate sub ends in early May (did the 1 yr deal right when the pandemic hit)
So I will no longer be eligible to renew Gold at the old price and I wont be eligible to access any new user Gamepass Ultimate promotion.
I was hoping that the price of Live stayed consistent until I was able to renew so I could stack some years...but it didnt.
Oh well, Gamepass has been great to me and my friends this past year. We got the whole Halo 3 team back together (on PC) and had some good matches in many other games we trialed around in.
I just wish Halo Infinite wasnt delayed so I could’ve beaten the campaign.
Moving forward, I will just sub to gamepass for a month when there is a game I want to try because its not worth the recurring regular monthly charge unless you have a lot of time and want to experiment with lots of different types of titles.
Edit: On topic, I don't care about Xbox Live costs going up because I don’t have a Series X or S and I don’t actively use my Xbox One.
To be honest, due to this price increase, I probably won’t even consider getting an Xbox console moving forward.
I was close to pulling the trigger on a Series X once, but im glad I didn't since I wouldn’t pay $120 for Gold or stay subbed to Gamepass for it to be anything more than a brick next to my TV.
Its bs that you need Gold to play F2P games too.
