I'm should of been more clear I was talking about on a album with Pete Rock, and don't get it twisted I've known about the rapper Common Sense/Common since before he even came out (1990) from his peoples, and I ain't from Chicago, so I've always respected his pen and his accomplishments, but he hasn't made a album with Pete Rock better than CL yet....imo

I like CL think he is mad underrated as an MC but to me Common has three bonafide classic albums. And as good as CL is on both the two full length albums with PR I wouldn't say he clearly out does Common any of these albums.

This joint one of the better songs on the album tho. I think they coulda had their own “moment of truth” if they stayed together easily. I never liked guru that much outside gangstatr, on gangstarr hes own of my fav rappers even more than other guys who may be better. He just fits with preme the best. Same with cl/pete to me. Undeniable chemistry.

Good joint just cl

All these joints were heavy in my rotation, thanks for reminding me. That Jazzy Jeff album was slept on, so many dope songs.

CL over some harder beats would be dope.
I think CL still got that fire in him, but he want that magic with Pete Rock.
Not happenin'. Kinda sad because CL had the Supreme Clientele style before Ghost perfected it.
CL ain't a mainstream or bubbling under dude.
Droppin' a project in '95 with Premier would have been good.

...Illmatic dropped the same year as The Main Ingredient.
Blame Nas.

CL's working on a joint album with Peter Gunz now. It's called The Odd Couple.

Large Professor has some production on it, so far.

good album and good songs no doubt but nothing "iconic", imo

Soul Survivor is a classic album to me it influenced a lot producers to make similar type albums it was easily one of the better releases that year it was slightly underrated perhaps due to a lack of a really big single. Think it was missing a Nas, Jay or even DMX feature to really stimulate a bigger impact.

INI - Center of Attention
Deda - The Original Baby Pa

Both these albums were recorded just after the breakup. The production these two albums is just incredible it's a massive shame that both albums didn't get a released when they were supposed to.

The fact is CL and PR last released a full length album in 1994 that's 30 years personally think it's unrealistic for them do anything together at this point because if was going to happen it would have happened by now.

Honestly, cl needs to prove himself on his own as a rapper as pete rock has done already for himself as a producer. Pete doesnt need cl. :yeshrug: theres tons of producers for cl to work with if he thinks hes great. Honestly, cl wasnt that good as a rapper anyway. It was Petes beats that carried them as a group, not cl's rhymes.

Notice nobody has asked cl for a collabo. If anything, hes only being acknowledged for what he did with pete rock. Thats why he was leaning on him on that allhiphop when he begged pete to make his beats. Hes done a few albums on his own but i never seen anybody saying he has bars. Cant get by off of what you did over 30 years with pete rock carrying you,cl. Be for real.

Can't chime in. Pete rock is Pete rock. Him and common are on a run.

Cl, as y'all mentioned, could pop with another producer. But he didn't.

He needs to thank God he met Pete rock in the first place. Some of us can appreciate the offer kilter Flow...but people wasn't then and aren't now jamming no cl smooth like that. Troys a no question sort of thing...

Was it Pete's instrumental or cls raps...

Be honest

If I were Pete I'd never fukk with him again...

I've heard all the stories and shyt...ain't nobody but that one strange guy checking for no cl

Yall make some great points....Pete Rock might be a egotistical axxhole who is full of himself but his track record speaks for itself as far as collaborating with artist and dropping projects with them...Ntm none of them speak down or have called him out...CL a real nxgga but if you been around and peep his interviews you know exactly the type of personality he got and it aint the type to just let shxt go ifykyk :pachaha: ....

And yeah he probably looked out for Pete in that regard to navigating the streets but ateotd its about the product, the music and his end just don't hold up at all :manny:

Whatever the case its obvious their relationship is far to complex to unpack and become cordial enough to record again, people just need to let it go but the rap media will keep poking at it and these type of threads will keep popping up LOL...

CL should tap in with a producer that can actually deliver a solid cohesive body of work, anyone of the mentioned proved they can carry a project.

Man... them nikkas don't mess with each other. Fans need to let it be, cause it's crazy to expect somebody to work with a dude that's likely to turn right around and talk shyt about him soon as the album drops. They've tried it, even after the "make my beats" interview and all that, and continued to fall out with each other. Pete is a... uh, interesting... MF, and CL seems like one of them 56 year old nikkas who still be gettin' into beefs at the local bar. It just ain't gonna work out.
