Floyd is just an another level than Pernell, which is why he can still be dominate at nearly 40 years old
only other defensive fighter up there with Floyd is Hopkins

Sugar Ray would have been the only fighter who could beat him of that generation.

I don't see how you can even pick a winner between these two (sweet pea & floyd). Both possess skillsets & styles of fight that neither have really encountered. But i would lean slightly towards Sweet Pea via SD/MD given the fact that he's a bit more proven against a higher caliber of opponent.

First of all, this fight would never happen cuz Floyd would either retire while he's in his prime, age him out, or duck him and ask to see his PPV #s. But if they did fight, Whittaker by wide points unanimous decision. Better defense, better reflexes and footwork, southpaw, and he throws and lands more punches on average than Floyd does.

I read that a lot of people got the better of sweet pea in sparring because he used to just clown and practice defense.
***snorts 392929seconds**

aint no tellin what sweet pea was on durin sparring tho,

hell his goal prolly was to see what his tolerance level was while on different drugs

or some shyt

hell prolly let his guard down to see if he can handle the punishment

hell come to think about it, its prolly a reason why floyd wont fight manny, maybe because pernell and manny both southpaws and both apply steady attacks and unorthodox

and alot of people have said a real south paw will give floyd hell, maybe pernell is the reason people say that

I'm kind of siding with Pea on this. His chin was underrated, he got dropped a few times but mainly due to him being off balance more so than the punch. Even at the higher weights a faded Pea embarrassed De La Hoya (dude was robbed) and a even older/drugged up Pea gave a prime Tito some problems, and was able to handle his power also. Given that Pea is a southpaw I think he would have had an easier time hitting Floyd than vice versa, he was no slouch with the hand speed, was stronger than he looked, and Pea is thee defensive master at #1 with Floyd as 1a

It would be a close fight.

Completely disagree, Sweat Pea is nowhere near Floyd's level who's about to be 37 years old and still untouchable for most part
I believe Floyd when he said he gave him the work but took it easy on sweat pea too not damage the relationship
you can watch any of their fights and see Floyd is clearly more skilled
The best fighters Sweat Pea went against he lost to

Since Floyd's been over 30 he's been fighting guys younger than him except for Shane and putting them, stopping the younger guys from becoming superstars
sweat pea could not hold back the De La Hoya's and Trinidads from becoming the next big thing

Who did Floyd age out?
When he's the oldest guy in his division now
Whittaker does not have better defensive than Floyd, and has had trouble against lesser opposition
