The malls in the burbs still get packed where I live in Maryland on the weekends. But it's the non retail stuff they're building on the outside of malls keeping the malls alive (i.e. casinos, Dave N Busters style arcades, Cheesecake Factory style sit down restaurants etc.). And people go to the mall just to go there. Teenagers are infamous mall rats no matter what the year. The mall is like the club for teenagers on Friday and Saturday night. Remember them days? And the kids get wild in the malls out here. It's gotten so bad in Maryland that some malls have a curfew on the weekend for people under age 18. But nowadays, adults act like kids to at the mall because they go most to flex on nikkas with all of their appalling hypebeast attire. :unimpressed:The mall is like a hypebeast gallery where they don't even sell hypebeast clothes. :beli:Most people obviously don't shop at the mall for clothes because everybody is super hypebeast these days wearing limited clothes and kicks from Supreme, Off White, Gucci, Balenciaga etc. Which is why these sneaker consignment stores selling worn Jordans aren't going anywhere. :feedme:Who would have ever thought that back in the 90's or even 2000's? What's weird is that hypebeasts don't realize there isn't anything wrong with rocking brands you can find at the mall like Polo, Gap and Champion, yet they're always in the mall looking like a StockX ad. Because everybody is a sneakerhead and hypebeast in 2020 yet very few people actually know how to pull off fits and look fresh. And of course, regular people are always going to need to re-up on basics from Footlocker/Finishline new white Air Forces, Timbs, latest J's on drop day, New Balances out here in MD etc.

And I see stores struggling to stay open in the malls out here. Almost nothing can stay open. Not even restaurants in the food court. The mall is a dying breed. It's like a museum dedicated to 80's and 90's culture. All of the music they play in most stores and in the food court are 80's and 90's songs. :flabbynsick:

When I was growing up, you needed to go to the mall to buy clothes, buy music, meet up with your friends and holler at females. :ahh:Now you can do all of those things from your phone. Urban malls back in the 90's had the freshest gear you couldn't find at mayo suburban malls. :win:You couldn't cop an Avirex leather, a Coogi sweater or Girbaud jeans at most white ass suburban malls. Now because everything is online, everything is watered down and wack.

It's part of it. Even if you could watch new movies at home people would still go to the theaters for the experience. People actually enjoy getting out the house and being around other people.

Your favorite restaurant probably can have your food delivered to you but you still would likely go there. There's a reason sports bars typically stay in business for a long time. There's also a reason people go to sporting events and sit in nosebleed seats when they could have a much better view watching at home and it would be much cheaper and more convenient.

I know most folk here are social misfits and incels but the fact remains that venues that hold a certain social atmosphere will always exist and will always be relevant.
I have two malls in my area, one is mostly abandoned with the only shops open being government type businesses, it wasnt always like that.

The other mall in my city has an entire wing of vacant shops. That means 1/3 of the mall has nothing there.

Sad to say, but malls are in fact dying, atleast in my area.

When I was in LA last (in 2014) I went to the beverly center.......It was dead as hell, tumbleweed type shyt. First time I went in 95 it was one of the most packed malls I ever seen.
Breh, I grew up in LA and use to hang out at the Crenshaw mall all day with friends in high school.

I went there a few months ago with my wife and that shyt was not the same. A few old people, a couple teenagers, but dead compared to how it use to be.

I have 2 malls close to me and both are thriving :manny: anyone in the Bay can attest. Only one that folded was the Eastmont Mall in Oakland but nothing thrives in Oakland in regards to retail :manny:

It might be based off of area, but something isnt right when malls that were popping 15 years ago are half abandoned now. I know it cant be because the population out here is shrinking because everyone from LA is moving out here it seems.

From my experience, malls aren't the hangout spots that they use to be, others may have a different experience tho.
