It depends on the mall and/or location. Back in January I went to one mall that I hadn't been to in years and it was EMPTY. Hardly any stores were open. I wouldn't be surprised if it closes this year.
On the other hand I went to the Galleria last year and it was packed. Of course it had a ice skating rink and had high end stores like Gucci, LV, etc.
