Malls as indoor general shopping centers are dying out. The ones that are surviving focus on a niche(outlet and/or luxury) and/or become indoor entertainment/medical/restaurant hubs.
Are you 14?People go to the mall to be seen. One of the last places left to do so besides the club....and the mall is free.
Nothing like walking through a Macy's or a food court at the mall on a Saturday afternoon and peeping baddies.I'll never understand how they fell off. When I was a kid going to the mall was a treat on Saturdays with my family. Came to hate them as an adult because of the hassle going to just the store I wanted to hit up, but seemed like teh shyt for kids.

Yep. Went to topanga mall yesterday and all the women and men strolling through. Most of them didn’t even have shopping bagsPeople go to the mall to be seen. One of the last places left to do so besides the club....and the mall is free.
Hit the nail on the headI think alot retail spots just overextended themselves and need to contract. Small city may have not actually needed 2 malls , or 4 towns within 20 minutes of each other probably didn't all need separate malls , you didn't need 3 Gas stations on the same street, 2 Grocery stores in the same shopping Plaza, etc...

Which kills your whole point because records are constantly being broken at the Box Office which shows people are still going to the movies. Why are they still going to the movies? Because like the mall, it's one of the few places people can go and be seen. Many reasons why.
1. We didn't have smartphones or social media back then. The mall was our Facebook. That was the easiest way to meet females and hang out. The game how has now changed.
2. With the Internet and online shopping, there is little incentive to go out shopping unless you're plus sized and you have no choice but to try on the clothes.
3. Alot of these councils are greedy and have made parking extortionate. I'd much rather order products online than have to park in an overcrowded space and potentially get a ticket.
The mall is pretty much dead. We've got Netflix instead of the movies. We have amazon instead of having to go out and shop. We've got uber eats instead of being served by someone that barely speaks English.
