Matter of fact a corner store around my way is selling those same mini Walmart pies (pecan, lemon etc) but charging a $1 instead.

I brought a couple earlier today.

My youngest daughter asked me like two weeks ago what my favorite dessert was, just making small talk, and I told her it was pecan pie.

Couple days later, I come home from work and she’s sitting on the steps waiting for me with one of the Walmart pies in her hand.

:mjcry:

Had her mom take her to the store and bought it with her own little money

:wow:

Most people that I know don't make it right. My mom will make sure that the sweet potatoes are well mashed, adds butter, canned milk and the sugar/spices.

to key to sweet potato pie is dark brown sugar; to me, it doesn't taste the same/as good with white sugar or light brown sugar.

other than that, I have yet to have a sweet potatoe pie not my mom's that isn't disgusting. Especially when it has that sweet potato stringy shyt or the crust is not cooked, it's all soggy
:hhh:

that part is supposed to get taken out during the mix:lolbron:...it's easier to get out if you use a mixer instead of hand mashing:ehh:

Real shyt...its like only older ladies grandma types make those chess and lemon chess pies. Those buttermilk pies be good too but I see older cac females make those the most.

Chess pie good af and a southern food but u don't see it as much at functions like sweet potato/pumpkin, pecan and fruit pies.
Man I'm country and I had never had buttermilk pie and a super country breh at work had his grandma make one for the office back in the day. shyt was good as fukk. But definitely to sweet to eat all the time

Mannnnnnnn listen - I tried to make a sweet potato pie using my moms recipe and failed miserably. That ish came out the oven like sweet potato custard or pudding on dough - first off, I didn’t use enough sweet potatoes and for some reason, it was too watery. So I must have used too much cream. I didn’t use any brown sugar- I didn’t even know that was supposed to be in the recipe, so thanks for putting me on just now
:deadrose:
I was trying to experiment. Then I didnt put enough sugar and put too many eggs. Too much nutmeg. I called myself trying to spice it up by adding egg nog to the sweet potato batter. That didn’t help. I’ll try again for the winter holiday. My pie was a catastrophe disaster b.
:stopitslime:
im a modern working woman, I wasn’t meant to be preparing holiday meals days in an advance- order the family a Popeyes Thanksgiving turkey and hit up the local soul food/ barbecue spot for Mac n cheese and ribs. Buy the “glory” brand greens in a can to heat and serve delivered via grocery app. Put a few dabs of hot sauce in it to front like I made it from scratch. All of this done from my laptop, no lines or grocery store hassle. Meal complete in 2 clicks. 10 hours in a kitchen - I think NOT.
