i dont think this is a big deal, its 19 out of 119 schools and its a free country

its understood that some of the private schools will be religious schools that will teach religous beliefs :manny: that doesnt change anything for me

in the end schools have to be compared to other schools through grades and tests and then parent can make up their mind as to whether the school is what they want

The freedoms our laws provide do not cover taxpayer money being spent teaching things that are blatantly not true and passing it off as education.

And I'm not bitter. I'm contemptuous.

Obviously it does cover it because the schools exist and taxpayers are fitting the bill. Each state can decide what it wants to do with their tax dollars by sponsoring various initiatives, like these schools.

What about Catholics schools now? Might this be like they are now? I know here in Arizona, and many other NON BAT SHYT CRAZY STATES, some of the best schools are either Christian or Catholic. :manny: I don't know what they teach in those schools but isn't this more or less along those same lines. It's fuked for sure but is it a "HUGE" deal?

Catholics to their credit acknowledge evolution.

The New Orleans School Voucher Program - YouTube

:wtf:

You'll go to any irrational lengths to defend your position on vouchers. These schools that teach "science" based on their religious beliefs are in violation of the 1st amendment.

Giving religious public schools tax funding should also be a violation of the first amendment.

You'd be surprised how many Christians do too.

Just saying, there are a lot of knowledgeable christian's out there too, in fact since someone took a stab at Oral Roberts, I know quite a few people with degrees from there doing very well in large corporations. :manny:

all religious schools teach religion, hence their name religious schools, there is no opt out once you register, catholic schools teach Catholicism, stuff like the pope is the representative of god and you can drink wine to have your sins forgiven

it should be up to the parent if they want their kids in religous schools but its silly to suggest religious schools are less academically rigorous because they teach religion

Tax payers should not be forced to fund religious schools. Or do you think we should also fund madrasa's as well?

From what I know, the better Catholic schools actually do have very balanced curriculums, relatively speaking. They'll have a Bible class in there, sure, and maybe some disciplinarian standards that come from their own tradition, but they'll also have religion classes where they teach other religions fairly and comprehensively, and AP-level math, science, etc. They're basically good private schools with a little religion thrown on top, as opposed to the schools described in this article.

thanks for sharing your opinion but there is no constitutional principle that says that, tax payers already fund religious universities, why wouldnt they fund high schools or elementary schools?

what a parent chooses to do with their voucher is on them, just like you can take your financial aid to any university, you should be able to take your financial aid or voucher to a madrasa if you so wish, as long as the madrassa meets the standards

its a free country

vouchers are not establishing a religion and it doesnt impede practicing any religion

that's kinda besides the point. those "knowledgeable christians" aren't responsible for this nonsense in Louisiana

in fact since someone took a stab at Oral Roberts, I know quite a few people with degrees from there doing very well in large corporations.

I used it as a running joke. Ned Flanders graduated from ORU

but the fact you know successful people from that school doesn't prove much. one of the criticisms of schools like that is that it's the 'easy road' for those get through life for those with money and/or connections. but I don't wanna get into the validity of all that. like I said, I used it as a running joke

Vouchers, since they involve direct government funding of private school tuition, violate the Constitution whenever the private school involved uses this money to pay for religious instruction. Simple and plain.

But these charter schools in Louisiana have been struck down by the courts as unconstitutional on other basis anyway.
