It's "fun", but definitely an early access experience, anyone saying this is better than d4 in its current state is fanboing.

better to compare with D4 at launch than D4 today.

I played it at launch, it was fun a bit but definitely lacking in a lot of parts. its better now but still has some failings and odd design choices.

D4 at launch was still a full campaign. And 2.5X the price.

I wouldn't even compare it, because the campaign just doesn't have the same production value, voice work, writing in the slightest.

I know D4 endgame got shyt on a lot, but D4 core experience is really fantastic and pushes what an ARPG narrative can do.

PoE2 has excellent combat, and mechanics that is objectively superior to D4.

And that is really where the road ends with that.

I will give PoE2 huge credit for being way more accessible than PoE1. Game is fun and easy to just dig into it.

I don't play ARPGs for story/campaign so for me, PoE 2 is definitively better than D4. Also Nightmare Dungeons are awful so that drops D4 significantly for me.

I played PoE for on and off for 10 years and still don’t really know the story. Same with Grim Dawn, Torchlight, etc

Action RPGs are about builds and loot for me.

:yeshrug:

yup I won't say i'm a huge diehard of the genre but I put several hundred hours into d4 and its fun but it becomes a really hollow boring experience endgame. simply not enough cool builds for each class.

Grim Dawn story is actually pretty fun. Last Epoch story isn't good. It's in the same vein of PoE1. Very run of the mill.

Just played POE for an hour for the first time. Died more times in that short time than in 40+ hours of DAV, Standard/Normal default lvl for both. This and my distaste for soulslike games has solidified my status as a casual-need-to-get-gud gamer. :mjcry:
This is the main diff from PoE to PoE 2. There are skill barriers to go along with level/gear barriers

PoE didn’t have skill checks until you get to map bosses.
