Tithing should be something you believe in not pressured into.
GOD doesn't need or want anything from us done unwillingly...going by scripture he seems to want us to give willingly..not begrudgingly.
Tithing is also donating in a way..tithing is about faith.
It's say..GOD I recognize all the blessings, money I have is because of you..and thus I choose to honor you by giving a portion of that up back to you.

Black Churches screwed themselves.
The current generation isn’t dedicated to going to church like our grandparents were.
The main reason is because most of us were dogged out constantly by the elders.
“kids these days” were judged how we were dressed, the music we choose to listen too, the shows we watched etc
Not to mention, some of us watched our parents struggle to survive day to day, with ZERO genuine help from the congregation
Will know those same kids are grown up and making their own decisions.
When our grandparent pass, who is going to fill those church pews?

Had a similar experience. Put me off big time.
Has very little to do with what you said. Our grandparents went to church because it was one of the few places blacks could gather in fellowship and organize. The church was the cornerstone of the community and most of our business, community events, and leadership filtered through the church.
That’s not the case now so people who are as you say, struggling, will ask what are they getting in return for their time and money.
As opposed to the jewish community where if you need some sort of connection whether financial or opportunity wise you better be bumping shoulders with someone in a synagogue.
