He probably had a bigger part originally but the movie went through reshoots and changed endings and that was the only stuff with him they ended up using.

Finally watched it last night, the movie was average at best until the ending which was garbage. Jake should have drowned in that pool during that gravity incident. Pratt should have burnt to death or been brain dead for going without oxygen

This is kind of the film where a producer finally run out of idea and goes with a main protagonist go with an irredeemable action and see if they can redeem him in the eyes of the audience. Just terrible. I don't know if this film was overwhelmed with exec pressured to do a love story, but the film was at it's best when it was just Chris Pratt's isolation. Just sad that a film is just exceptionally mediocre when it had no business to be.
