In fact, the majority of discrimination/racism I have faced in my life is on account of people thinking that i was some sort of middle easterner (and therefore a terrorist or something). Obviously not, but the branding of all south asians under a set of often inaccurate basic descriptors such as arab, muslim, raghead etc is commonplace. This also applies to eastern asians being called chinese when they may be of korean, japanese etc descent. Its just indicative of ignorance that the american population displays.

when i was in college living off campus, a Sikh lived below me and my roommate.
he kept his heat on super high so much that it kept our apartment warm.

a few days after 9/11 he was gone for a couple of weeks.
he came back and his car had an American flag on the antenna and a couple of USA bumper stickers on it.

me and my roommate saw him and said hello, and asked him where he had been.

he told us his uncle owned a gas station down south (don't remember the state).
someone shot him and set him on fire because they thought he was a Muslim.
he went to go help deal with the whole matter.


we both hugged him and just walked away...what the fukk do you say to someone in that situation?
