can't be surprised at a computer animated children's movie doing well..

it's 2013.

toy story changed the game almost 20 years ago.

plus it was 2 sequels to extremely successful movies going up against a new unknown title. the first despicable me probably brought in over 200 mil easy.

the only times i ever heard of people talking about pacific rim is on this board. and i know a lot of people who usually love these types of movies, including myself.

Animation and comedy>>>>>>>>>>another end of the world, cities being destroyed movie

LOL at any of ya'll thinking kids would have the attention span to sit thru Pacific Rim. I damn near feel asleep myself during the middle of the movie.
I hope you never complain about the lack of risk and originality in Hollywood

Originality?? Please explain sir...if you talkin about Pacific Rim its basically a live action anime. Giant robots fighting giant monsters is not original at all :russ:

:dahell:

Anyway, I think the subject matter and scope of Pacific Rim is far beyond what kids could get. Its summer time, parents just looking for ways to get the kids out of the house without scaring them shytless. I remember my older cousin took me and my brother to see Godzilla when we were 11 and 9. My mom pitched a fit. :russ:

The difference being that pacific rim was ok and T2 was an all time GOAT level action movie.

That's why parents shouldn't take their kids to what their kids want to see, they should take them to what they want to see.

I remember when that dumb "Planet 51" movie came out.

Planet 51 - Rotten Tomatoes

This kid wanted to go see that at the theaters. I was like :stop:

Not that I don't like animated movies. Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Shrek (the first one), The Incredibles...all classics.

But we spent that money on Fantastic Mr Fox instead.

Fantastic Mr. Fox - Rotten Tomatoes

Everybody enjoyed the movie. Personally I think "Despicable Me" was way overrated because of the little kids and the yellow people. "Megamind" was funnier. Haven't seen the second one.

Saw Pacific Rim though and that movie was :salute:
Megamind was easily the better of the two "Villain turns Hero" movie. But Despicable Me had the little yellow dudes so they win.

i miss when animated movies were few and far between. you were GUARANTEED quality.. now they release monthly.

Idk if they took longer to make back then due to technology or the market changed, but a lot of em are trash now.

turbo looks like the snail version of cars..

where's the originality!?

For a Hollywood film, yes it is original. Can't think of any other Hollywood movie that is like Pacific Rim.

I'm taking my kids to both. What type of parents take their kids to just one movie during summer?

We ain't watching grown ups 2 though, part 1 was unbearable

Word. Both movies are the type that I feel I'd probably enjoy enough to own and that my family would like as well. I tell my niece continuously that I refuse to take or watch dumb shyt with her though, so for movies like Twilight, Grown Ups and the like, I tell her to go see it with her friends and she'll be lucky enough if I even so much as drop her off to see them.

I think parents should moreso put their influences on what their kids watch rather than just go see dumbshyt cuz their kids want to. I'll wait for netflix for them shyts.
