People say the same thing about AI carrying a 76ers team to the Finals, but the truth is that those teams would have been a 1st round exit in the West. But the Eastern Conference was so unbelievably bad that they were able to make it out of the East. Saying he made them the best team in the East is like pointing out the smartest kid on the retard bus, it's not anything to be proud of. I give Kidd credit for him turning a 29 win team into a 52 win team but do you really think they deserved to be anywhere near the Finals, especially given the fact that they were the #1 team in the East with only 52 wins?

To answer your question, yes I do tend to frown upon score first PGs, but that doesn't change the fact that he couldnt when needed to and was an inefficient shooter
He could if he needed to. He was a poor shooter, But he could get to the rim if need be.

Anyone who's watched Kidd over the years knows that he wasn't a consistent 3 point shooter until maybe his later years in Dallas. He was 35% from 3 point range for his career. Again, that's not the knock on him. He was generally inefficient, as backed by his poor FG% for his career. He's maybe the best rebounding PG of all time and one of the best facilitators and playmakers in NBA history and his defense is underrated. But offense was not his strong suit and if you asked him to carry the team himself scoring wise it didnt usually end well

I agree witht he Mutombo and see what you talk about, but you really killing me with Jason Kidd. People's obsession with just scoring always has me :dwillhuh:.

What's great about Kidd is his ability to beat you without even having to score. Name another player who was knocked offensively in the NBA past or present that was sent to LEAD a team and took them to the Finals, twice at that. Kidd is top 5 PGs ever, and I wouldn't disagree on any number in that 5 where you place him. Saying he was overrated because of his offense is disturbing.

Call a man who took a 29 win team to 60 in the most turnaround wins in history overrated brehs.

call a man who the next season lost their second option to greed, I mean free Agency (Joe Johnson) and their numbers actually IMPROVED overrated brehs.

This is the one problem I have with Kidd. Out of these guys, which would you rank him above:

- Magic Johnson
- Isiah Thomas
- Oscar Robertson
- John Stockton
- Bob Cousy
- Walt Frazier (who I think is truly underrated and forgotten throughout NBA history)
- Gary Payton

Kidd is unquestionably top 10. But I think it's a bit hard to place him in the top 5 when the guys above him have more complete overall games and career resumes. In that sense, he is overrated. I still love him as a player, but his poor shooting knocks him down a tier for me

When you play C, it's not expected that you contribute a ton offensively. When you play SF, it's almost a prerequisite to be able to shoot or score. Wallace was never HOF material but his defense was so good that he got a pass for it the same way that Rodman did. Mutombo at least had a decent post game and scored in double figures every year for the first 10 seasons of his career, it's not like he was ever trash offensively. Dont forget he averaged 17/12 during his rookie season and his scoring dipped as the Nuggets gained scoring options around him. I've already admitted Rodman's the best non-big rebounder in NBA history and an extremely versatile defender. But does that make somebody a HOF'er or an extremely good role player?

They lost to superior opponents. Isn't that what generally happens. when a great player takes a shytty team to the finals.

Yeah, and I do give him a pass because he averaged 21/7/10 for that series. I doubt any East team would have won a game against the Lakers. But again, out of the 7-8 or so PGs I listed above, which ones would you put Kidd over? I think it's hard to make a case for him as a top 5 PG of all time

Oscar was a small forward.

Didn't see Cousy or Frazier.

On that list Three way tie for third. Stockton, Payton, Kidd. *shrugs shoulders* But Kidd never played with no one NEAR the HOF. Malone is a HOF and Kemp might get in eventually.
