Rookie
Denver lost because their offense revolved around 2 ballhoggers Melo and A.I.. A.I was essentially Kyrie Irving in Philadelphia because his initial position was to be a PG.. He shouldve worked on being a better passer and playmaker to add to his ability.. but he became nothing more than JR Smith with handles and efficiency in Denver
AI 2001 would be exposed like Kyrie in this era
He was drafted to be a point guard and averaged 7.5 assists/game in that role as a rookie. He also happened to be the best scorer on the team too. He has a ball hog rep but averaged a decent number of assists during his time with the Sixers and McKie, Snow, Ratliff, etc had the best years of their careers playing along side Iverson. I personally think its crazy that he was able to put up those assist numbers with that surrounding talent.
Then you compared him (a guy who by his 3rd season had LED his team to the playoffs and won a round) to a guy that has never been to the playoffs with a similar level of talent around him. Then you compared him to JR Smith who has only scored more than 15 ppg once in his career, never averaged more than 3 apg at any point in his career, and has never been the face of any team (we can count that 1 Knicks year he averaged 18 if you want).
AI wasn't a perfect player by any stretch but he was a beast and would be just fine in todays game. I agree with Denvers deficiencies as a team as well but they were coached by George Karl, who has done less with more than any coach in playoff history. Just as recently as 2013, he was winning a bunch of regular season games and being thoroughly out coached in the playoffs and he did that in ALL of his stops.
And how was AI a ball hog when he was a shooting guard who averaged 7 apg with the Nuggets?
