Disclaimer; I'm not some weirdo here to complain about "an agenda" (one of my favorite characters is a lesbian) and my point is the story isn't some 10/10, this-is-more-than-a-video-game type of story.
This is just the first half of the story, I could go on Not a horrible story, but, got off on being "processive."
Not saying it is not a good game (gameplay wise, it really just improves on the first game with more animation...same basic game loop), but, the story at no more near how it's celebrated.
Nitpick All the men are fonder to move the story along exactly what people complain about; Jesse exists solely to imp regnant Dina, so Ellie can have a family.
- Making the 2nd main protagonist main motivation the death of a NPC with retconned significance.
- Making Ellie go from a precocious, curious and jovial 14 year old to a cynical, evil, selfish 19 year old was a horrible writing choice without letting us know how and why
- For example; we all knew how Clementine made a similar change in between games--she joined a gang out of survival and it got rough. Ellie was sheltered in a fully operational post apocalyptical city
- Ellie was mad that Joel didn't let her die...though the entire first game was about her wanting to be accepted by Joe, not just some job for him to complete and move on. This is a goofy retcon simply to add shallow "emotional depth."
- Abby is a fine character and I have no problem with her killing Joel--I won't even complain HOW it happened.
- BUT having her kill Joel (in the beginning of the game) for a cheap emotional pop and spending the entire game building her up was cowardly. At every chance they got they depicted Ellie as irrational and wrong for trying to kill Abby. And Abby as misunderstood and heroic (the whole Lev subplot).
- Abby killing for Lev (someone she just met), her father (revenge) > Joel killing for survival from point A to B to drop off Ellie ????? All of the sudden Joel is retcon is an evil mass killer
