Disclaimer; I'm not some weirdo here to complain about "an agenda" (one of my favorite characters is a lesbian) and my point is the story isn't some 10/10, this-is-more-than-a-video-game type of story.

  • Making the 2nd main protagonist main motivation the death of a NPC with retconned significance.
  • Making Ellie go from a precocious, curious and jovial 14 year old to a cynical, evil, selfish 19 year old was a horrible writing choice without letting us know how and why
  • For example; we all knew how Clementine made a similar change in between games--she joined a gang out of survival and it got rough. Ellie was sheltered in a fully operational post apocalyptical city
  • Ellie was mad that Joel didn't let her die...though the entire first game was about her wanting to be accepted by Joe, not just some job for him to complete and move on. This is a goofy retcon simply to add shallow "emotional depth."
  • Abby is a fine character and I have no problem with her killing Joel--I won't even complain HOW it happened.
  • BUT having her kill Joel (in the beginning of the game) for a cheap emotional pop and spending the entire game building her up was cowardly. At every chance they got they depicted Ellie as irrational and wrong for trying to kill Abby. And Abby as misunderstood and heroic (the whole Lev subplot).
  • Abby killing for Lev (someone she just met), her father (revenge) > Joel killing for survival from point A to B to drop off Ellie ????? All of the sudden Joel is retcon is an evil mass killer

This is just the first half of the story, I could go on :yeshrug:Not a horrible story, but, got off on being "processive."

Not saying it is not a good game (gameplay wise, it really just improves on the first game with more animation...same basic game loop), but, the story at no more near how it's celebrated.

Nitpick  All the men are fonder to move the story along  exactly what people complain about; Jesse exists solely to imp regnant Dina, so Ellie can have a family.

I love the experience of the game but they butchered the characters and story.

It's not irremediable but I'm not hype for another TLOuS like I was after PT 1

It's worth a play as long as you're not coming in to see "THE EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER OF A GENERATION...A FIRST CLASS REVENGE STORY"

It's more or less, the first game (improved mechanics and new fight animations) albeit with lower stakes plot-wise.

Cause there ain’t already 100 arguments about this even currently on-going on this forum already?:unimpressed:

The tide is never gonna turn on how people feel about this game

Not saying it's trash or anything.

Storywise, it would've worked better as a spinoff within the universe.

It makes no sense that there is zero implications on the virus or a cure. It's just a petty revenge story with questionable motivations on Ellie's side.

Don't get me started on the 2nd half of the story.

They should've gone ahead and made Ellie the villain and Abbie the new protagonist. Have her do something super evil to justify her existence after hiding her immune status or have her be super reckless and even kill Joel. Something more creative than that.

Ellie's motivations were all over the place and every thing Abbie did to her was justified by the plot.

I fukking hate how they had her go after Abbie, AGAIN, months after Abbie had the drop on her and Dina. Why? Because she is just so broken up about Joel...who we're not sure why she hate him so much not to forgive him, but, loves him so much to trek 13 hours, on foot and horse, to Seattle to kill one person by herself

not bad points, except from the bolded…no disrespect to you, but I don’t know why people struggle to comprehend why Ellie is a completely different person in this game compared to the first..

Even in the first game she’s cold and distant months after a phycopath tries to rape and eat her, in this game she’s found out her father figure has lied to her time and time again about something she knows he’s lying about, then watched him get beat to death before she got a chance to reconcile, there’s literally nothing wrong with the writing here, it definitely didn’t need to be explained either lol, it would be weird if she WAS the same Ellie from the first game….y’all wanted her to be pulling out the joke book in Seattle? Lol
