Over a decade later, why aren't the 2000s romanticized like the 90s were?

It takes about 20 years for the romance to kick-in fully.

In 2008 The Cool Kids were using that 1980's fashion and aesthetic. That electrosynth sound that was big from FutureSex LoveSounds/Graduation and damn near everything for 5 years was based off the 80's. Movies like Paid in Full or games like Vice City are homage's to the 80's.

Likewise in the 90's there was lots of shyt from the 70's extremely popular.

RN mid/late 90's is en vogue. Dressing like 9-6 Nasir Jones or DMX aesthetic.

We already seeing a resurgence in the late 90's and early 00's rnb sound.

musicians are always remaking songs from the 2000s, ive seen celebs rocking von dutch, baby phat, and avirex.. this is just a start the new decade just kicked in it's going to be full fledged within the next 5 years as 2000s babies grow into adults and 90s babies who grew up in the 2000s try to cling onto their last bit of youth

90s nostalgia didnt become hugely prevalent till like 2013/14

90's started coming back in style around 2015 but youtube, buzzfeed obsessed nostalga, makeup/fashion blogs/gurus gave it a big push. maybe another 3-4 years for 2000's although fashion wise its starting to come back with y2k egirl fashion already. on ig y2k is hella romanticized but not mainstreamed yet

idk about this one bruh.

90s were revered even in the early 2000s. I was a 90s kid who graduated HS in 2006 & we stayed talking about the 90s even back then

90s were a pinnacle of Black Music, Sports, and Film. Mike Jackson, Mike Jordan, Mike Tyson, Biggie, Tupac, Prince, Jodeci, Mariah Carey, etc...

The 90s had a rebellious edge to it as well since many GenXers were hitting their primes and had that counter-culture vibe to take risks in pretty much anything....Millenials were a bit more street saavy and social due to a good chunk being latch-key kids like the generations before.

That took a sharp turn after a stolen election and 9/11 shortly thereafter. Rise of Social Media which caused anti-social/reactionary behaviors, then the Recession (in which we never recovered), 4 years of Trump, then Covid....2000 - 2020 were rather trash tbh....

....
You can’t look at the decade but you have to look at who was nostalgic about it. Y’s are nostalgic... just like the parents of Y’s who were nostalgic about the 70’s.

The 90's been romanticized since the 90's. When I was in the second half of high school in the early 2000's, the first retro Jordan's from the 90's came out (i.e. 5's, 6's, 11's, 9's) and they sold out immediately and everybody was rocking them just like today. nikkas was still listening to 90's classic albums religiously from relevant artists and would spend all lunch hour debating who's the best mc Jay Z, Biggie, Pac or Nas.

Certain aspects of early 90's culture was considered played out in the early 2000's. Snapbacks were played out, fades were played out too depending on where you lived.

Full on 90's nostalgia hit in the early 2010's. I feel like the rap group the Cool Kids were the first ones to really fully bring back the 90's swag 100%. Then snapbacks and Starter jackets came back in style. People started to try to dress head to toe like it was the early 90's instead of wearing vaguely 90's inspired fits. Kendrick and Lil B had a lot of throwback early 90's themes in their music ten years ago.

I feel like the 2000's is revered by 2000's babies. But I have yet to see people throwing on 6XL tall tees like it was 2002 again. Or channeling pre-dreads Weezy style like we all did back then. Then again, I did see Tory Lanez wearing a big ass white tee with a satin Celtics jacket, some baggier jeans with Timbs and a white durag under a headband. In Japan, it seems that they are bringing back the 2000's drip, baggy ass pants and tall tees and all, through their thrifting culture.

ya'll must have been some lames low key, because everybody i know thought the 90s were corny and dated during the early 2000s.
Later on we started feeling nostalgic for it

Niqqa what?!

The 90s is not "romanticized". The 90s is the peak of the Human Empire so far.

The 2000s .. is not the top decade for ANYTHING

All the brilliance of the 90s was turned to shyt in the new millennium. Culture and society are slowly recovering, but Pop has totally lost its soul. Pop music. Pop comedy. Pop TV. Pop movies. Pop shyt was always less soulful than true art, but Pop used to start with real talent then water it down. Nowadays they start with completely empty calories and try to dress it up to make the taste tolerable.

The 90s was the best decade so far in all of history. May never be topped
:comeon: The 90s was also when black genocide numbers was astronomical and the 90s is also the reason the Black community is so fukked up, old heads who glamorize the 90s always skip over this part.

And if we talking specifically music I’d say the 60s-70s shyt all over the 90s, because Black genocide wasn’t promoted and sold worldwide like it was in the 90s, and musicians from that time period laid the foundation for 90s music.
