I've never heard anything from him and don't plan to

Check Wrist w/ Pusha T, Ink Blot w/ Juicy J, and Top 10 with Big Krit. Those are 3 of only a fraction of his songs where he at least somewhat doesn't sound like he's doing the karaoke versions of better rappers.

Alot of what people think of as "buzz" is really just industry inflated hype.

People get confused because they think the smoke and mirrors are real when the truth is...seems like some of these nikkas are trading sexual favors for the privilege of looking like they are poppin when that ain't really the case...

You would think somebody like Young Thug who probably seems like he has a higher profile wouldn't be flopping like he is...a lot of these nikkas outchea are on some Prince Ali from Aladdin shyt...cept they ain't rub the lamp, the probably had to rub somebodies lap.

It's not that at all. People have to identify with you to buy your music these days because they can just get it for free. Biggest sales are not a reflection of quality per se. But they are a reflection of brand loyalty. It's why J. Cole sold 400,000 first week off an album that everyone considers a snoozefest outside of his immediate fanbase. They relate to the "college guy" "regular joe" "trying to make it" "humble but I'm still dope" persona. He even dresses like it now. @GoldenGlove was about to write about some things being semi-manipulative or cynical. But that's what it takes today. Logic sells because a demographic identifies with him. No one identifies with these guys making turnup music (except Future). They just enjoy partying to it. This is why the Meek accusation hurt Drake and why he dodged it. It went directly at the character he had a built. If he would've said "so what I don't write" then he's selling 100,000 right now first week. Logic isn't "hot" in the sense that everyone knows his songs and will vibe to them. It's just that his fanbase supports him. It's like how you have these YouTube stars that some people know more than major celebs that none of us can name. In 1999 Young Thug with those hits would be triple plat and Logic would basically be where Talib Kweli was.

Y'all have no problem when Biracial and multi admixed women become the face of Black women, but logic... who does have a Black father is now not a Black man because he don't look like the rest of y'all.... Oh ok.

1. I def agree with the brand loyalty, the best formula to success is to become endearing to your fans, I might have even said that in this thread at some point. Logic has found his 'people' and spoke to them, provided value to them.

2. BUT, what I mean in the post you replied to was in regard to how some people act so surprised that Logic has such an audience, they figure these other guys have more of a mainstream profile so how is this guy selling more than ____...having a mainstream profile doesn't mean you have fans, some people seem to be confused about that.

And I like the Talib/Logic analogy because in that era a rapper like Logic wouldn't have a way to communicate with his fanbase like he does now, he'd have to depend on the labels to find a way to market him which would have left him in the so called "underground".

A lot of mixed people aren't this conflicted on this topic. A lot identify as black, which is why black people don't trip over it.

Logic has gone out of his way to declare that he's not "really" black. Dude seems like he would get offended if somebody called him black, which probably happens never anyway...

A lot of mixed people can just stand in the light skin line, some can't. I would imagine those that can't just blend in probably are more conflicted on this topic than people who can.

I think Logic's conflict comes from the fact that his pops is mixed.... So he doesn't look like your typical mixed person who has a black parent and a white parent.

He has a mixed parent and a white parent so moving another generation away from his pops those black genes are less recognizable in him... Which is why he probably feels the need to say, "Wait man, I'm black too!"

But I doubt he had to deal with strangers' having a certain perception or prejudice about him like a black man, or a biracial man without a mixed parent.

:manny:

Logic never dealt with racial profiling, only racism I've heard him rap about is from his moms. He didn't live with the same target on his back as a black man... Simply because he looks white.

It's really that simple

You said other mixed people aren't as conflicted...I said that maybe he's a little more conflicted because he can't just go stand in the redbone line and blend in...I don't know what the speculation on what he has or hasn't had to deal with has to do with that statement.

Did Rock Newman have the same target on his back as a blackity black man?
:yeshrug:

I don't know...don't really care. If he identifies himself as black I'm not gonna argue his identity with him. He's a grown ass man and I don't know what he been through besides what he tells me/says publicly.
