“Angry is good angry gets shyt done” thats the line that scared them muhfukkas cause its so simple powerful and true. They gon ramp up the non violent MLK speech on 1000 next black histoRy month

Thats the reason why black folks pushed BP to a billy cause killmonger’s anger and approach connected with us even tho he was the villain. Like yall created this so no sympathy

Orlando Jones May Sue Fremantle Over ‘American Gods’ Firing – Deadline

SAG-AFTRA Expands Fremantle Probe To ‘American Gods’ Orlando Jones – Deadline

UPDATED with Fremantle’s Response: SAG-AFTRA is expanding its investigation into Fremantle following the departure of Orlando Jones on American Gods.

This comes after the Gabrielle Carteris-led union had already began investigating the RTL-owned producer over Gabrielle Union’s exit on America’s Got Talent.

In its response, Fremantle said that it welcomes the investigation while alluding to “allegations without factual support.”

The union was already investigating Fremantle as part of a probe after she was sacked from the Simon Cowell-created NBC competition format.

It will now expand the investigation to cover Jones’ exit from the Starz drama. He was fired from the Neil Gaiman adaptation in September as it prepared to go into production for season three, having starred as trickster god Anansi, aka Mr. Nancy, as well as one season as a writer and producer.

Fremantle insisted that Jones was not fired, but that the company decided not to pick up a third-season option on his contract because of the narrative focus of the upcoming season, but Jones claimed that Fremantle had a race problem.

A SAG-AFTRA spokeswoman said, “After initial meetings with Gabrielle Union and her representatives about her experiences on America’s Got Talent, and after learning more about Orlando Jones’s experience on American Gods, SAG-AFTRA is expanding its investigation of Fremantle Media [sic].”

“Our enforcement actions are handled confidentially to protect the members involved, and we typically do not publicize these matters unless the affected members request that we do so,” she added.

Fremantle Friday morning responded to SAG-AFTRA’s announcement. “We welcome this investigation and intend to cooperate fully,” the company said in a statement. “Allegations without factual support should not go unchecked. We have already informed SAG-AFTRA that we are willing to meet to discuss the allegations.”

I didn't watch season 2 but from what I understand he was a writer on that season.

But the character was saying similar shyt in season 1. So it's not as if he changed anything.

I dunno. Over all just a weird ass decision by the show runner. Then on top of all that Mr. Nancy was a fan favorite.

Fred.

It's like I was saying in the TLR thread.

Anansi on top of Watchmen is too much for them to bear. Gotta tone it down.

Next time they're prolly gonna go back to the safe quiet negro driving a bigoted but superior white person around while dropping shyt nuggets of wisdom.

So thats what it was. They were mad he was doing a majority of the writing and they didn't want to pay him for it. That's why I said the answer the studio gave was bullshyt about the show following the book and not needing Mr. Nancy anymore. The show hasn't been following the book since jump since its more from Wednesdays perspective and not Shadow Moon.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ORLANDO JONES: ANANSI BOYS, AMERICAN GODS, HIS TERMINATION AND MORE!

The GWW: What was it like writing your own character? Was it freeing? Was there a lot of added stress or pressure? How different was it from your roles?

OJ:
Bryan and Micheal set a pretty high bar, with Nancy’s introduction. I was mindful of that but looked forward to the challenge of it. I’ve been in writer’s guild for 25+ years so writing isn’t new to me. The most difficult problem was they didn’t give me any time. I was writing scenes and scripts very quickly. And the groundwork isn’t mine so I’m doing it in a box, does that make sense?

The GWW: Yeah, it makes sense. Sucks that they didn’t give you a lot of time to write. I heard that you wrote for Anansi, but also most of the other PoC characters. Is this true? Did you pitch this idea or did they ask you?

OJ: Not really. That’s the job. If you can’t do it under pressure you shouldn’t be doing it. In the season two opening there’s a scene with Bilquis, Ibis, and Nancy so I rewrote and began writing those characters more often. They asked me. Neil Gaiman asked me, and then the EP Jessie Alexander asked me, and then the studio and network asked me to continue. I started doing notes with the studio alone with the showrunner’s permission, of course. I was very involved and they begged me to do it. They just didn’t want to pay me. I told them I could not go against my guild. It’s a writer guild show and I’m a member. They had to pay me. They said no. I said, That’s kinda racist. You paid all the white guys and they are at home.

The GWW: Did you end up getting paid?

OJ: Yes. The guild requires that. That’s why it was so stupid for them to be so angry with me about it.

The GWW: Yeah, it was pretty stupid. They know they had to pay you and they ended up paying you anyway, so why fight it?

OJ: I know that Fremantle doesn’t care about the characters of color on the show. They’ve said it to me. The showrunners are told to focus on Wednesday and Shadow Moon, but really, Wednesday.

The GWW: I don’t mind a lot of Ian McShane’s Wednesday, but not caring about characters of color isn’t only pretty racist, it also just doesn’t make sense with Shadow being the main character and where his character is headed.

OJ: That’s why in the season 2 opener, Mr. Wednesday is suddenly telling the story of American Gods. The story is supposed to be told from Shadow Moon’s perspective, not Wednesday. They didn’t write for us cause the openly say brown faces don’t sell in Europe.

The GWW : Wow.

OJ: It’s not a secret.

The GWW: Was there ever discussions about adapting the sequel to American Gods, Anansi Boys, with you in a more prominent role? Would you do it if Gaiman asked you now?

OJ: Neil and I have discussed it. We’ll see what happens.

The GWW: I don’t know how that’s going to work out now but I hope it somehow works out.

OJ: it will. I’m not worried about it. Keep a positive attitude. We manifest what we believe, remember?

The GWW: You’re right! Given the current social and political climate, what issues would you have touched on in season 3 given the opportunity?

OJ: I don’t know. It’s about the characters for me. I’d figure out each of their end games in the war and lay out the dangerous liaisons/Valmont battle royale of the Gods.

The GWW: Have you checked out the social media impact the character has had in the black community and what do you want black people to take away from your performance and the character’s point of view?

OJ: Mr. Nancy is the god of stories. Control your narrative. Tell your authentic story or you will be marginalized because they literally believe pigment means you’re a 2nd class citizen globally. They see us as victims so all we get is victim stories. I want people to know that I am with them in this fight and entertainment is how to create systemic change.

Sue the fukk outta them nikkas and the whole show and shut that shyt down.
