Game is dope but I can tell its not going to overthrow Guacamelee as GOAT metroidvania.
You actually don't have to backtrack much to get everything. Watching some speed runners there's a route you can take to get everything with minimal backtracking

Finally got my DS4 hooked up wirelessly. Works nicely, particularly using the touchpad as a mouse. 
Currently stuck on the first water escape though.

Yeah it is but there was no path to it. Found out how to get there though, its to the left of the very starting area.
