I quit this show after S3, which was terrible.
On general principle, I have issues with Jenji Kohan and her shows.
Her shows exist on the unspoken belief that white women are the center of the universe.
Her cartoonish depiction of Black people based solely on her imagination is a also a sticking point.
With this show dealing with a prison population, we get to see what she thinks about other races of women as well.
The fact that she cast only attractive women as the Latina prisoners lets us know what kinda gutter sex she likes.
The bleak endings shows that she ultimately wants us to see women as victims.
This also indicates her failure as a storyteller.
If you go through the trouble of showing us the humanity of these women outside of their crimes and flaws,
Why not show how these women have grown from this experience?
Instead, in order to seem "gritty", she just dumps more tragedy and dysfunction on the characters in the final act.
Not to say that all the endings should have been rosy, but just as each person is different, each experience will be different.
Not watching the last season. For once, spoilers came in handy.
I'm glad I quit when I did.

I did not think about thst in terms of attractive latinas. Could you expand on why you think that is? Theyre like a fetish to her or something?

Yeah. She has a thing for Latinas.
To her, Latinas are sexually desirable but morally bankrupt and, like her Black characters, childlike intellectually.
Judging from her work and the dialogue of the characters in it, she views Black women as stereotypical mammy types.
These Black women, in her mind, are aesthetically inferior to white women and furthermore they know it.
They openly praise the cac woman for her beauty.
In Weeds, Helia was always fawning over Nancy
Taystee's very first scene was fawning over Piper
Crazy Eyes was obsessed with Piper in Season 1

I can't get down with that assessment, at least not when it pertains to WEEDS. In WEEDS, Heylia was always smarter than Nancy and always had to save her ass. Same with Conrad. I think Conrad and Heylia were great characters in WEEDS. They always showed how Nancy wasn't street smart, or as brilliant as she thought she was.

Piper was the worst thing about the show. It didn’t fall off because of a lack of focus on her, it fell off because it went longer than it should and some seasons stretched storylines too long or made terrible characters central to the plot - Badison, those two older sisters who ran C and D block, frieda, crazy eyes being over the top mental and annoying, etc.

I agree I hated all of that too, never understood the appeal to any of them people especially crazy eyes. However

all of that happened after they shifted the focus from piper. They did that to stretch the show past what should have been 4 seasons tops. I’m not saying piper wasn’t a piece of shyt I’m saying once they exhausted her storyline they started doing all those things you mentioned and it suffered cause those characters were even less interesting than piper.

Again, piper wasnt the most interesting in season one, I liked a lot of the other characters, them lingering on the wrong ines for some episodes/plots has nothing to do with the other storylines of other good characters, besides, piper became less of a focus after season 1 and seasons 2 and 4 were great to me

completely agree, Piper is probably the least interesting main character they had & going away from her and bring the light on alot of others was a good choice. It just they focused on storylines for too long or dumb storylines (Crazy Eyes should have been a minor minor character past s3 same w/ Lorena) and that was the issue.

I liked the season but man was a lot of the shyt depressing:

-Taystee:mjcry: I kept hoping she was gonna get a happier ending and was :damn: when it looked like she was gonna off herself but luckily she didn't although life in prison is awful. At least she seemed to find a purpose in helping others who are getting out. On the other hand though you know that new warden is an a$$hole and is gonna make life a living hell for everyone there:snoop:
-The ICE storyline. Maritza fading into nothing on the plane. Going to a country where she knows no one and has nothing.
-Karla getting deported, trying to make her way back into the country to see her kids only to hurt her ankle on the hike, and will more than likely die alone in the desert and never be found:mjcry:
-Shani more than likely being killed by her family when she's deported back to Egypt:francis:
-Red's dementia
-Pennsatucky being so distraught over the GED test and Luschek's negligence that she turns to drugs and OD's....only to find out that she actually passed:snoop:

A few more thoughts:
-I had no idea that was pornstache at the end with the little girl. He looked nothing like when we last saw him.
-Aleida is truly a piece of shyt but I :salute: her for throat chopping Daya at the end. Those drugs got her all fukked up:snoop:
-I don't really remember Caputo sexually harassing the CO
-Blanca:salute:
-Badison getting the:camby: Couldn't stand her:blessed: Didn't care that Daddy od'd either:ehh:
-Of course Piper chose to still be with Alex. She routinely makes bad decisions and will always make bad decisions. When life says "maybe you should go this safe route" her ass goes "I think I'll go with the option that is no good for me:ehh:" If I was Larry at the end I would have had to tell her to get the hell outta my house:camby:

I can’t front. This season surprised me and I’m glad I ended up watching it. Was just gonna not bother with it like I did house of cards.

was a real tear jerker but I’m glad they toned down some of the antics after the riot. Ice shyt was hard to watch as well as any scene involving taystee.

Mendoza is sexy AF.

low key kinda sad this is over with now. I been kinda cool on the show for the last few seasons but it’s surreal to me that I been watch this show for 7 years and now it’s over.
