honestly going off topic is what makes these threads. The people complaining about derails literally don't contribute and/or are the wackest posters here and are what make HL the worst forum.

Those posters just comment on other people pov's and talk shyt. They don't actually make a point most of the time, so..................

Exactly. All these so called "complainers" contribute NOTHING to the forum, provide NO salient points or topics of discussion in ANY thread, yet continue to complain and bytch. If you have nothing constructive to say, kindly :camby:

I don't think dogs are people, but I strongly support the case for better ethics in our treatment with animals. I think the title of the article is sensationalist, to draw in readers, but other countries have also used the term "personhood" apart from "human." Like India recently jumped on the bandwagon of several European countries by banning the capture and confinement of dolphins in the country, because of scientific evidence showing that they were incredibly smart and self-aware. The argument was that they had "personhood" (defined as sentience/self-awareness and individual identities,) though obviously not humanity, and so they deserved rights and protections associated with that personhood, though that doesn't mean they get all the specifically human rights or are treated like humans.

When did you say this? :pachaha:
I said months back when someone started a thread and asked if the avg HL poster was older or something. Maybe it's a misguided belief that people who are young can find a space where they can disagree without personalizing someone disagreeing with them. Maybe college really did spoil me. @Liquid , while I disagree with a lot of this stuff, it wasn't too long ago that people in HL complained that it was dull and everyone had the same view. I'm still surprised that threads like that one about that 8 year old kid are the most popular.

When has Higher learning ever been considered a bastion of high intellect and thought? Most people like yourself that continually shyt on Higher learning have done so since its inception. Yet in still, you guys still visit and post here daily. Which in turn begs the question....are you part of the problem or solution?

Getting off topic, but I am always curious what people expect from HL. I think there are many intelligent people who post here but we tend to have expertise in different areas. So a history, politics or philosophical conversation will have 2 'experts' who really know there shyt and a bunch of other people just expressing uninformed opinions.

I own a dog but fukk a dog any day if I can save a human. On the real fukk a dog.

:patrice:
Make a topic showcasing a flawed perspective on increasing awareness of animal intelligence and the subsequent need to treat them better only to be faced with nebulous, terrified arguments about dogfukking and gay sex brehs
:gladbron:

beat me to it
