honestly going off topic is what makes these threads. The people complaining about derails literally don't contribute and/or are the wackest posters here and are what make HL the worst forum.

Those posters just comment on other people pov's and talk shyt. They don't actually make a point most of the time, so..................

Thoughts, this legislation will be used to give people hard time for animal cruelty to fill prisons in a future where people commit less violent crimes towards human beings.

Its so demonic, friends.

Uncertain grounds
I have always considered humans to be intellectually arrogant when comparing themselves to other animals due to the nature of our brains.

Sure, it may indicate that humans have a more complex brain, but that doesn't mean that other animals can't think or have some limited human like aspects that should result in them being treated more compassionately by humans, if, we are truly not :demonic:

Humans destroy more of the environment and hurt other animals more often than most animals hurt other animals and destroy the environment, Im not sure how "smart" that really is.

Personally, I find myself willing to treat animals (largely domesticated ones) almost better than some humans. Although I dont, I have more reason to smack a human on occasion than smack a dog or a cat that just tries to love and be supported.

Damn family, I appreciate the input but your post is a contradiction in its entirety.

human like

I have more reason to smack a human on occasion than smack a dog or a cat that just tries to love and be supported.

Maybe semantically, but my use of "human-like" is largely in reference to the article and the comparison of brain functionality and aspects.

More complex and bigger brain does not necessarily mean more intelligent or smarter. Smaller brain does not necessarily negate capabilities of a bigger brain. I co-sign the study to a degree.

In regards to the statement that I have more reason to smack a human than smack a dog...well there simply more crimes and atrocities committed by humans than there are by dogs. If they were re-incarnated into humans (maybe a poor example), then chances are a majority of them would be vastly more pious than the % of humans that are. But that's just me. Even if, to a degree, a domesticated animal's nature is based on the training of their human owner. The same could be said about a child and his parents.

I just don't like this study at all. Just how it is worded and forced.

Why not just say the animal shows possible brain activity associated with certain brain activity in humans. That's good science.

When you take that and assign a mind to the animal, it is baseless assumption that spits in the face of thousands of years of philosophical attempts to understand consciousness and what constitutes a "mind". I believe that there is a spectrum of intelligence in the animal kingdom, but science has not reached the point yet to begin understand even our own minds. While I think that it will eventually happen, I don't think we are there yet completely. Best evidence of this is our struggle with artificial intelligence. We are making progress on that front, but we are just now scratching at basic sensory and sensory reactions. Nowhere near the level of being able to say a sentence like "the child watched the blue sky yesterday and enjoyed the view" and attach intentionality to each of those words.

Need to understand our mind first before we start assigning these things to animals and machines. I don't think emotion is the end-all be all of it.

Make a topic showcasing a flawed perspective on increasing awareness of animal intelligence and the subsequent need to treat them better only to be faced with nebulous, terrified arguments about dogfukking and gay sex brehs

lol, u all are pretending to be clueless.
So someone brought of the criminal justice system and what the study could be used for. I'm not sure how bringing up other implications is 'terrifying'... it's not a crime in real life. It's the most common thing when discussing anything. Only on here is it wrong, and it's only wrong because u all are defensive about the gay topics. Crime and sex aren't the only things to be discussed either. Family law, custody, taxes, tax credits, etc. Eventually, people make the case that animals shouldn't even be kept as pets (that was lowkey the entire point of my animals and suicide thread)

but on this note - Our own president has made gay rights one of the key points to his entire presidency. It's a current issue and even more of an topic in here due to the gay rights threads and crusaders in hl.

someone actually said that he wants to treat animals better than humans based on this study ---- yet things that are currently happening aren't relevant ? -- including Virginia, Florida, and a few other states in letigation right now in 2013 over sex w animals, because people are piggybacking off gay rights cases. So it's the timing. This isn't the only BS study like this. There are others and clearly enough 'Studies' can legitimize anything - just look to the options of all of you guys on every topic.

Yet in still, you guys still visit and post here daily. Which in turn begs the question....are you part of the problem or solution?
