Kendrick can be pop, nikkas just associate pop with bubblegum britney spears shyt and he's far from that but he's one of the most popular artists of today's music. :manny:

People act like he can't be a GREAT rapper as well, when we all know that ain't true

The problem with this logic is it equates popular music with pop music....and the two ain't the same. Pac, BIG, Wu, Outkast, BONE, etc. were all going 3-4x plat back in the day....#1 on Billboard....but nobody in their right mind would call them pop.

If you listen to his body of work there is nothing "pop" about it. people just wanted to use the fact that hes commercially successful against him.

Labeling an artist as a "Pop" artist is definitely one of the biggest methods used to downplay an artist. It's not really anything wrong with the tag or label itself. It's also not far fetched to say Kendrick Lamar is "Pop". I mean, he's definitely crossed over into a sphere of music where he's not just discussed among Hip Hop fans anymore. I mean he got a Rolling Stone cover that definitely is geared more toward Pop culture far more than it is Hip Hop.

Also to say he doesn't make Pop music is kind of erroneous as well. When you look at the biggest songs of 2017: "Black Beatles" and "Bad & Boujee" (both chart toppers) and compare it to "Humble" and "DNA", there are commonalities. Kendrick's verses are just more complex.

There is a problem with the label because "pop" and "popular" are not interchangeable. By definition, they aren't the same. Cats act like you can just swap the words out....it don't work like that.

And "Black Beatles" and "Bad & Boujee", despite being popular, aren't pop. "Wu-Tang Forever" went 4x plat....nobody was calling it pop. Pop is "One Dance". Pop is not "Humble". Pop music is a genre, not just short for "popular music".
